i have physically put a dog in the crate yes - but still throw a treat or something in there for them and try to stay calm. i just mean don't scold them as you throw them in there or battle them in still needs to be a good place.

Jackson recently figured out he's big enough to jump up on the furniture on his own -- he was rarely up there before. It got out of hand one day when he was playing with Murphy and launched himself into a recliner and nearly tipped it over. What I am doing is teaching him "off" and that he has to be invited whether the furniture is already occupied or not. Then he's only invited when he's calm and doesn't think it's play time which at this age isn't very often! He's getting the idea. He's only getting up occasionally when he forgets himself. Sometimes all I have to do is point to the floor and he gets down. But initially I had to take him by his collar and direct him back to the floor.

I wont throw a treat if they are being terds. LOL. Ruby (just turned 7 mo) had a little adolescent moment tonite at rally class and believe me, she went into the pop up crate w/ no treat. Crate is a command at my domain. And, we lived happily ever after..........

LOL ok i know i posted twice about always using treats but obviously there are times I have none anyway. So I actually agree with you more than it sounds.

My point is more than if she is putting the dog in time out repeatedly every day, and it were always done by physically placing the dog in there with no treats, it could become an issue as far as crate training. Because of the number of times done this way. VS if most of the time you "send" the dog in their crate with something and then once in awhile (small % of the number of total times the dog is crated) you have to "put them in without a treat" your overall balance is good. Just a question of overall balance.

Even my adult crate loving dogs get treats most of the time they are crated (which is not often these days). The odd time I need to crate pen without a treat (and sometimes even sorta shove her in) is outweighted by all the positive experiences. Obviously if she is being crated for being an ass and needing a time out/seperation she won't be happy even with a treat haha.
