    Puppy peeing everywhere

    Hello,
I'm having difficulty with my puppy. Whenever my puppy is home with me she either pees on the newspapers in a closed off area for when I'm not home or she asks to go outside with her, she never pees in the wrong place. When she's with my mom, she pees on all the carpets and seems to do so every hour.
    Any advice?

Do you and your Mom live together? When puppy is with Mom is it a different place? You will have heard that "dogs don't generalize well." That means that just because they learned something in one place (to pee, to sit, etc.) doesn't mean they know to do the same thing in a different place. That might be part of your problem. Mom has to potty train too, at her house, or you do.

Coupled with that I'm thinking maybe Mom is not as observant as you. Mom is missing the "need to pee" clues.

Are the carpets clean, was there ever another dog peeing on them? It can be hard to get residual scent out. Can you get Nature's Miracle? Failing that, vinegar might help. But carpet is awfully hard to get really clean of scent.

Every hour seems a bit much. I forget how old your puppy is but I'm thinking you got her, what, at least a month ago? I'd think she'd be past needing to pee every hour. Is it every hour at your house too? Every hour but in the correct place, makes me wonder about a UTI. Or, maybe Mom is more fun than you (not a criticism, Grandmas are well know for spoiling the kids ) and puppy is over stimulated there, possibly over fed too, a common Grandman foible, and just needs to go more often?

What I would suggest is have your mom work on potty training as well. Even though your pup is probably past the age, have your mom take her out every half hour or so. When the pup comes back in, tell your mom to give her some kind of high reward (lunch meat, chicken, etc.). After about a week or so, she can move on to longer intervals, but keep the treats coming. After the pup learns to go outside for your mom on a regular basis, she can start cutting back on the treats (maybe every few times she goes out or so).

After 2 months of constantly working with Murphy to get him to go outside, he's now learned to go near the door if he needs to go out (of course, sometimes he uses this to get us to go out and play with him ). I've stopped giving treats every time he goes outside. I do it maybe once or twice a day, but I usually always reward him for No. 2 (but I'm starting to cut back on those as well).

If your pup doesn't go outside at your mom's house, simply do the same but on the newspaper/puppy pads/etc.
