Anthony is still on the second step in our inground pool. We've tried everything to no avail, high value treats etc. The second step allows him to lie down and get his 'bits' wet and he's a happy boy. We'll try again this year. Maybe our son in law 'to be' can carry him in this year.
One thing to everyone with a pool of any kind. BE SURE THERE ARE STEPS SO THE DOG CAN GET OUT ON HIS OWN. Dogs have gone into (or fallen into) water when people weren't looking, and been found dead after they exhausted themselves swimming.
As far as getting a lab to swim: First... warm water and relatively warm day. Second... boy, it sure does help to have a happily swimming dog around. The natural drive to get the toy first will drive a little guy into the water... also getting the dog to see that the water is fun. And of course, a lot of happy talk and good boy and so on.
Gigi never showed any interest in the pool or little tub till the kids were playing in the beech.she just followed the kids and was swimming at 10 weeks. She was very confused with the little baby pool but now she has a ball with it.
Sound's you having such hard time, don't have any advice with that. Hope you find the best way to teach him good luck. I know someday he will become a good swimmer.
Our Addie only goes in after long walk ans she is hot.....

Went down to the river today with Milo's buddies, Charlie and Jax. Milo jumped right in and started swimming around like he's been doing it his whole life! All it too was Charlie to jump in after a stick and Milo was hooked. Good boy!
Yay Milo!!! It's so awesome when they "fly" for the first time!
