My mistake; I didn't take paragraphs to say let her outgrow it. When Rocco was small I didn't want him to be afraid of guns, took him out to shoot, never flinched, so it was time to move to the next biggie.

I generally let them outgrow it too. I don’t really comfort or use food either - I tell them they’re being silly (and I act like there is nothing to be worried about) and if the still seem to be worried, I ask for a trick (usually a hand touch) as a distraction.

We were out in the yard tonight and it thundered. She ran to me and I told her in a normal voice it's OK. See Mocha is not afraid. The next thunder she was about 10 feet away and kind of hunkered down and looked around but did not run. Mocha just looked up in the sky like What? We are hoping he rubs off on her.

It will. You're dealing with a baby, be patient, soon she'll be chasing cars with loud exhaust.

If the pup is fearful of loud noises, you may want to keep her inside during potentially spooky weather, if you know it's coming. At least until she gets used to such things.

Dr. Sophia Yin has a lot of good articles on dogs that are fearful of noises and so does Patricia McConnell, PhD. Much of the information is free (Google it) and they both also have good books you can purchase on the subject. Also look at Dr. Amy Cook. She teaches classes for scaredy-dogs. Also an animal behaviorist.

The sky was clear over our house however there were dark clouds south of us and I didn't expect any thunder.
