I'd actually like statistics proving it *does*?....I'd like to know just how exactly their food can alter genetic health make-up.

There's no scientific 100% proof of any food, type of diet, etc that can generation after generation lengthen health-span of a canine life within every single dog that eats that one particular food.

Gee, if I eat a diet mainly of corn, will I live longer too?

This seems to be more about keeping dogs lean all their life, instead of allowing them to become heavy, which I think is kind of common sense anyhow.

RC has been eating a Purina product since last year , working great for him.

It has nothing to do with the food fed but the amount of food fed. Obviously a lean dog is more likely to live longer than an obese or underfed one.

I think you are directing statement towards me, so here goes : One of the Purina products have worked better for RC than many other foods I have tried since 2007. Took RC off food he had been eating in 2007 due to rice protein recall, pet food company could not or would not tell me who they got rice protein from.

I can list the foods RC has tried but bottom line they did not work for him , I think RC is better off eating what he is eating and keeping his yeast in check otherwise he would have to take ketoconazole and temaril off and on, he started yeast flare ups since 2007.

Only reason I posted in this thread , I did not see a reason for anyone to be sarcastic about a food when it works for many.

actually, it wasnt directed to you at all.
and i am always of the belief that if a food works for your dog (and isnt complete garbage) go for it.
what i think is that it's a skewed view and faulty study.
that's what i think.

I'm honestly NOT aiming to be sarcastic, it's a fair question that I would want answered even if it was Natura posting the comment/guarantee, if you will.

Purina's website does say that their food *WILL* extend your dogs healthy years....I'd like to know how they can guarantee that enough to actually post the comment?

I could be wrong, but I don't recall any other dog food manufactor specifically claiming that they can guarantee your dog to have extended healthy years and then actually list the actual number they could increase it by.

This thread, IMHO, wasn't about what dogs do good and don't do good on Purina; the statement only states it can extend a dogs healthy years....that's the question.

Again, I would want the same question answered as to how a *guarantee* could be formed if it came from Natura's website.

Do they have scientific studies of generations of pedigree's; more then one or two pedigree's, and can they actually 100% guarantee that *any* dog eating Purina would have extended healthy years simply by eating their food....??

I don't see how ANY food company could claim that, irregardless if it were Orijen all the way to ole Roy...it's not a fair statement to claim is my point.

I get the point that the link basically tells one to be sure to not allow their dog to get overweight, and keep them lean; that's the point of their statement....however, it shouldn't be worded in such a way as to hint at a guarantee of health for an additional 1.8yrs...they don't know this, they have NO way of knowing what pedigree history is included in each and every dog that may encounter a diet of Purina.

I've seen thin dogs become ill long before their time too.....and statements like this are simply false advertising; again, I would say the same exact thing if it came from Natura's website.

I've said it several times, I don't believe in one investing their total faith in one particular source of diet/company.

This study is old....2002 I believe....
and the only thing that can be taken from that study is less food is better...keeping your dog lean with plenty exercise will add years to your dogs life...not feeding Purina ...

Kind of the same thing our family Doctors tell us during each visit for a check up.

Some interesting CBS 60 minutes segments on the Longevity supplement Resveratrol show this group of humans who look like skeletons live their lives eating minimal amounts..... They all have great energy and health...It seems the body has a survival trigger when less is eaten...

The interesting thing with Resveratrol experiments is that even fat subjects have the longevity gene turned on when given that supplement that is found in Red Wine...
