I know it's a cruel irony that the one member of the family who would be most comforting during a time of loss is the one you have to grieve.

As Jules was getting older my care for him really was just that... one of a care taker. I felt like my house was just his hospice once he stopped taking walks. I told myself that once he was gone I needed a break from dogs and the responsibility. Now, look at me. What am I doing? I'm contacting breeders! I think I just forgot the good stuff because it was missing for so long. I loved going on long walks and taking him to parks, watching him swim (even though he was not a fan. haha!). I liked seeing him play with other dogs at dog parks. I forgot about all that. I need to remind myself of the fun stuff more.

We're so very sorry to hear about your loss of a beloved family member. You gave him the best possible gift of love and a wonderful life. Our prayers go out to you and the rest of your family. RIP Jules and run free.

My wife sent me this when we lost our Murphy to similar circumstances-
