    Run With the Wind, Molly.....

We lost her yesterday, and my heart is broken. Will try & type a few things I've written for her, and I wanted to try & put some pictures on here, but I can't seem to figure out how to do pictures anymore......Shutterfly doesn't seem to be letting me put pictures on. Maybe I can figure that out later. I really wanted to share some pictures of her.....With frosty paws and silvery muzzle, Molly always like to be out in front, leading the way. She always had such a kind and gentle soul--I nicknamed her "Molly--Finder of Cats" because she found a litter of kittens once who had been dumped in the sagebrush thickets at the end of our road. They followed her all the way home. Another time she was staring into the thickets & when I tried to pull her away she just began wagging her tail furiously--"NO, Mom--it's IN there!" She wasn't satisfied til I got on hands & knees to try & peer in there and sure enough, there was very badly injured cat that had been hit by a car. It took me more than a week to catch it. I took it to an animal shelter, hoping they would help it, but don't know if they did--anyway, thanks to Molly, the poor cat did not slowly starve to death or get eaten by a coyote.

We had a neighbor for a few years who had 4 big aggressive dogs that loved to charge me every time Molly & I tried to take our walk down the road, but she was always there protecting me, letting those dogs know that they had better not be tryin' any nonsense. Gentle with the grandkids, gentle with the Pugs, gentle with our cat. There will never be another one like her, & I'll miss her forever. Feels like the end of an era.

    For Molly,

Suddenly she stopped in her tracks, hearing the honking of geese overhead. She watched with great interest, cocking her head as the lead goose suddenly dropped back to the end of the line, leaving the next one to take his place. She watched as the v-formation slowly winged its way out of sight. "Let me linger here for just a moment, Mom, just a moment...." Her nostrils flared to gather in every scent around her. She tilted her head, listening to the slight rustle in the grass. Then she gave a quick glance back at me as if to make sure I was ready to follow as she trotted homeward.

You go on ahead now, my precious Molly--I will always follow. Might take a little while this time, but when it's my time, I'll be along.....

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”
