    A sad anniversary

A year ago this weekend, we said goodbye to our Kimber girl. In the intervening 12 months, I've revisited the sad posts I wrote detailing the end of her journey; they often made me cry, but they also brought solace as they reminded me of her condition at the end. It helps me to stand by our decision to let her go.

I'm quite sure that if we hadn't brought Stormy into our lives, we would've been counting down the days and dreading this anniversary. Truthfully, Stormy has kept us so busy that the date flew by without fanfare; Facebook's "On This Day" feature alerted me.

But of course Kimber is far from forgotten. My office is full of photos of her, and not a day goes by that I don't think of her. I will always love Kimber, and thank her for the lessons she taught us. We are better dog owners and I think better humans for having had her in our lives. Here she is, a little younger than Stormy is now:

We are kindred spirits. Sprocket went over the bridge January 31, one year ago. You captured my thoughts very well. Diggity is a blessing and even though there will always be a gaping hole in my heart for Sprocket, he brings so much love into my life and I can’t imagine being without him. I often wish they could have known each other, especially on days when he’s being a pita and I think “Sprocket would have taught you this or that.”

Hard to believe it's been a year since you said goodbye to her. 25 years have passed since I lost my first Lab, Ella, and not a day goes by I don't think of her and all of the Labs I've lost over the years. They may have gone on, but they never truly leave us.

I can empathize as I was actually thinking of Tanner this morning out of no where, looking at his pictures and once again grieving. It's been over 3 1/2 years since he's gone. Getting Griffin, 2 1/2 years ago, as you mentioned, kept me so busy it allowed me to move on. Hang in there. Unfortunately, my Yukon is now approaching 12 1/2 and has his issues, so it's just a cyclical situation if we want to live with these wonderful animals.

Glad Stormy is helping you but the memory of Kimber will always be there too...

    Take care!

Oh my goodness....just look at the sweet puppy picture of Kimber....

It's never easy losing your beloved pet...but just think of the wonderful life you gave her...

I always like to think that our pets that have gone on, have somehow led us to our new pups that we bring home.

Enjoy every minute with Stormy...Kimber would want it that way...
