Most of us unfortunately know the transition you are going thru. From having a lab for a long time to that horrible silence when you come home and there is no excited, loveable, tail wagging dog to meet you. The silence of my home, no one to take care of and love and no big hunk of warm fur in my bed every night is what was the worst for me.

Sending MOJO for your heart and hoping you will keep talking to us about you and the wonderful memories of your loving Maxx.

Like blackboy98 said, a lot of us know all to well what you are going thru. Even though we've always had 3+ dogs running around here, there's that incomplete feeling when a fur kid is lost.
The hardest to overcome for me was dinner time I'd call out their name and then reality would set in. I'd take a moment, gather myself and say a quick payer.

That's what is great about this board, we all get what you are going thru and will be here whenever you need us.

Thank you everyone for the support. Everything Blackboy98 said is exactly how I feel. yesterday I walked the dog park & there was a lady there with a very young Black Lab puppy. Then I met another beautiful young dog that was up for adoption. I was tempted. When I got home there was a K9 Pet detective Blood Hound out looking for a cat. ( yes, this guy has 3 Blood Hounds that look for people's missing pets) Oh my god I fell in love. In the evening my friend dropped by wither 2 mixed breeds. It warmed my heart.

Alix B, your heart will tell you when you are ready. There is no time period for grief or hope for joy of another.

Also, there should be NO guilt feelings of dishonoring Maxx by thinking about another. You have a lot of DOG LOVE in your heart and that is a terrible thing to waste. As Cracker was getting closer to his end and I started thinking that I had to get another and the guilt swept over me, the wonderful members of this board set me straight. 16 days after I lost Cracker, Gabe came into my life and I was no made whole again, but had another to help and I know Cracker had a paw in picking the right one.

Another thing to think about is fostering. You would be helping a dog in need of acclimation of a home setting and if things worked out to your benefit, you might be a foster failure and keep the dog.

No matter what, I found out to keep talking to people about dogs, their dogs, dogs in shelters(you might volunteer to walk dogs and find the right one to bring home) helped me.

I am so sorry for your loss. I looked at the calendar, and you lost Maxxie about a week before I lost Harley. It will hurt for quite awhile. It is normal to grieve and cry because you have lost a companion - a member of your family. Just know, that you will see Maxxie again. Be aware of any signs that Maxxie may be leaving for you to show you he is o.k. and still with you in spirit. Prayers to you tonight and forward.
