    Run free Sweet Jessie

Yesterday I lost my sweet girl Jessie, suddenly and very unexpectedly.

She was as normal as always the night before, eating, alert (as alert as she could be anyway), and her normal self.

Tuesday morning, she didn't want to get up for outside, but I helped her up, she went out without any major issue. When she didn't come back after half an hour, I went looking for her.

She'd collapsed in the yard. When I got to her, she was shaking, and barely with us. I managed somehow to get her up the hill, woke my DH to let him know, and got dressed and hauled butt to the vet, after somehow getting her into the car.

She was very shocky when I found her (sunken eyes, shaking, pale gums), and I knew it was her time.

At the vet her blood pressure was so low, she had trouble finding a vein to end her suffering.

I can only assume hemangiosarcoma bleeding out, since the collapse was so sudden, and there was no warning sign. No necropsy, it was traumatic enough.

Run free, lovely Jessie. There are several waiting to show you at the Bridge where are the best places to dig and chase chipmunks.

Best guess is around 13 years old. She was a rescue from Georgia, and she was estimated to be 8-10 when I got her in June 2010.

It's still far too young, but then, they just never live long enough.

We only had her 4 1/2 years, but she worked her way into our hearts from Day One.

So very sorry for the loss of your sweet girl. She will in the company of many across the Bridge waiting to greet you again.

Rest gently now sweet one and then run free as a puppy of young.

I'm so sorry to see this. Her eyes seem to look right into your heart in the bottom photo. She lived in love for her last few years, you couldn't have given more.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”
