So sorry for your loss, but you have a life time of joy in memories. You gave Oscar the greatest gift-freedom from his old worn body. Now he runs fast and jumps high with all the others across the Bridge.

    Rest gently Oscar.

This was me on November 2nd when I said goodbye to my beloved Moby. It is three weeks now - and the pain - of course - lessens a bit - but honestly - I think it will stay with me for a long time. I am sure you loved your Oscar like I loved my Moby and cannot imagine a life without him. Just know - that you made the choice out of love - and take comfort in that. Oscar lived a good long time - very respectable for a lab. Never second guess your decision to help your boy bow out gracefully and peacefully. For me - it was so HELPFUL that I had my year and 1/2 year old lab, Barley. I cannot imagine going through this without him. I went through some old photos so that I could remember when Moby was younger and vigorous and not old and sick and I loved looking at them. I have a photo of him in the living room where I sit in the evening so he can "be with us," and a dear friend just visited from New Jersey and brought me a photo of he and I in Mendocino a few years back. It is next to the other photo - and of course - I feel apart when I saw it. It takes a while. It is a good thing to be able to love a creature so much. I am sorry you are going through this.

It hurts so much. This board was there for me in the past when i needed advise and an ear, so thank you all. Now how do I make the pain go away?

I;m sorry for your loss. Glad you had a sibling to help you get through this. We have Cassie to help us, although she doesn't seem all that bothered by the lack of competition for attention. Ugh, dogs....We revisited a lot of memories in going through Oscar pics for the photo album were preparing. Oscar as a small pup, Oscar with Rosie his big sister long gone, and Oscar with puppy Cassie looking all put out. End of an era for us. Start of another.
