Barry thank you for the update your vet sounds like a wonderful person to deal with. Although knowing that Bruce didn't suffer it still a tragic loss for you and your family. I like to believe dogs like Bruce don't die, heaven needed an angle and he was called upon by the big guy as he has bigger plans for him some were else.

Thanks for sharing. I'm glad you have an answer. I lost one of my boxers at 9 months of age to dilated cardiomyopathy. She was symptomatic so her passing didn't come as a complete surprise. Heart issues are often difficult to detect. My boxer had many clean bills of health from our regular vet until one day she collapsed. We were referred to a cardiologist and tried various treatments but we're told she was at risk of sudden death. Not words you ever want to hear... Bruce was a special boy and his time with you is even more special because it was way too short. I don't think any dog could have asked for a better life than the one he had with you. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Thank you for letting us know Barry. I know from your description, it sounded like Bruce went "in a heartbeat". But it helps me, as it did you, to know that, indeed, he died sleeping and in peace with no pain and no suffering.

I had to smile when I read your reply. A good friend of mine lost her 13 year old yellow Lab yesterday. Another very good friend of mine lost their 12 year old Black Lab the day before Bruce passed. Other older dogs have passed here very recently. I know it sounds kind of disrespectful, and I don't mean for it to be, but there was a moment today that I thought maybe God knew duck hunting season was about to start, and since all the old dogs were crossing the Bridge, God felt he needed a promising young dog to get through the season, and he picked Bruce. Something tells me my Brucie Boy is fulfilling his promise on the other side.

I've been away from the board for a while so I haven't been keeping up with the news. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Thank-you for sharing with us. Run free, Bruce. Keeping you in my thoughts.

Thanks for telling us Barry. I'm glad you have an answer. It's always difficult to say goodbye. I think it's even harder when they are so young and healthy one minute and gone the next. I lost Sam my yellow boy at just 11 months. It was devastating. I'm so glad Sophie is there to help you through this. Hang in there

Berry, sorry to hear about your friends labs. The evening I lost Abbey I sat there and sang two songs to her Rascal Flats "I woun't let you go" and Jo Dee Messina's "Heaven needs a hero" with one ear piece in her ear and the other in mine. And its Jo Dee's song that I truly believe there's a higher calling for them when they leave us too soon. To this day when I hear either song I still well up thinking of her.

Thank you for letting us know the preliminaries Barry. I hope it gives you some smidgeon of peace to know Bruce didnt suffer, and that there was literally nothing you could have done differently to save him. It won't heal the gash, but hopefully its a bit of a soothing salve.

Thank you for the update. I think it's important for us on this board to share critical data like this so more awareness gets out there. It sounds like Bruce didn't suffer so knowing it was a quick passing will hopefully give you some sense of peace as you move forward. Sending more good thoughts and support your way as you deal with this difficult event.
