    My old Lab Cleo

    -n545638475_137907_661-jpg

    Hello everyone,

My best friend in the world my black Lab Cleo passed away recently and I thought I would share my experiences with you. I absolutely love big cuddly dogs, Labradors are my favourite breed and a lot of people find it hard to understand my love and appreciation for them.

I have a disability and am confined to a wheelchair and well i love doggie licks, i dont tell many people because they dont understand but the nerves in my skin are really sensitive and well because i dont walk, any sensation on my feet or any other part of my skin feels extra nice, so to me it feels like a massage, and also cause when i was young i was bed ridden a lot so my old dog used to be my best friend and lick me a lot, so i grew up with it, sorry its kinda hard to explain.

for me the sound and sensation i love most is the feel and sound of dogs licking my face, hence why i like it so much, i know its gross to some people but its more the sound and sensation i like, i find it soothing, people think im crazy and i get ridiculed for it a lot. Does anyone else have this experience or is it just me

I think it's a sweet gesture...but I know where that tongue has been ha ha! I did teach Maverick "can I have a kiss". When I say that he will touch his nose to my lips. But to each his (or her) own.

As as far as the bedridden thing, I don't have your experience, but I've had pneumonia for the past week and Maverick only leaves my side to go to the bathroom. He's been super cuddly with me and it is comforting!

What a sweet face Cleo has! It is so hard when we lose our friends like this and you are correct, there are a lot of people around who just don't have the same deep feelings toward dogs as we have for ours.

My dogs are not big lickers. The older one has never been too cuddly, and rarely even gives a little kiss. The little one still seems to lose her mind when licking is allowed. Besides, I've seen where she's had that tongue, so I'm not so keen on them enthusiastically licking my face. Licking my feet? Sure, any day! Sounds like Cleo could tell what made you happy, and that's a special bond.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

I love big sloppy lab kisses! Thor and I have a routine where I stick my cheek out and say "you kiss me?" and he licks my cheek, then sticks his head down and I kiss his head and say "now I kiss you!" And we do it over and over again.

Cleo was, and, I believe still is in your mind, a beautiful dog. As for your experience, I guess I can sort of relate: I've had MS for 20 years, I've been sort of lucky because I have no serious disability and I'm pretty independet although I just do what I can do and when I can do it. Just had to reset my priorities so to speak. My girls have been the best thing that's ever happened to me, they make me walk, talk, smile and I can never fool them; when I'm really in trouble they know it and are very understanding, when I'm okay, just being lazy they know and I can never get along with that. Wouldn't trade them for the world.
