    RIP Jazzy :(

RIP IntCH WindyCanyon's Fulla Jazz CD RN JH NA NAJ CC, aka Jazzy (11/28/2003 - 12/12/2015). My heart breaks for a couple young boys who lost their best "girlfriend" last night. I placed Jazzy with this family ~5 yrs ago. They had actually visited wanting a small mellower black female puppy a year earlier, but I didn't feel I had the right pup for them. I couldn't forget how happy Jazzy was during their visit though... she had boys throwing STICKS for her and running her over the agility teeter totter (set low for safety). She was in heaven. I think it took me almost a year and another visit to realize that maybe I should consider asking if they'd like an older, already trained lab. My proposal was accepted gleefully and Jazz was on her way to becoming the Princess (or Queen?) that she always wanted to be. What a great decision, though I cried like a baby that day. I'd never placed any of MY older dogs. Just rescues and puppies. That was hard but the family made it so easy.

Jazzy hated competition under most circumstances. The only time she clearly took joy was at an agility trial that was unbelievably hot and humid, and she ran like a slug but the timer malfunctioned. The judge (a bigger, jovial man from OH) said, "I'm sorry but I can't be convinced she made time-- you will need to re-run the course for time". She had a perfect 100 score and I agreed, she was a SLUG because she was stressed. That was Jazz (she even had 2 Open /CDX qualifications w/1st places and oh boy, could work so great in our backyard or at training!, but when she got stressed, it was painful as a handler!!!). So that day at the agility trial, the nice judge told us to rest up in the shade... he knew I had just run over from his wife's ring so he felt super badly, but we had to rerun if we wanted to save face. We were the last in his ring for the day so he told me to take my time... he wasn't going anywhere for awhile as his wife's ring was still going. Then "it" happened. He looked at Jazzy and said "you look like a sweet dog". In a typically Jazzy style, she rolled over and asked for a belly rub The judge complied!!!! All of a sudden, she's there wiggling up a storm, happy as a clam as that scary judge was RUBBING HER BELLY! I told the judge "We are ready! Get back in the Ring!". He was like No, no take your time, rest! and I was saying No--- now!!! Get back in the ring! So he did. Jazz did another perfect run, only this one was WAY under time. Thanks to the belly rub by the nice judge. PS, just looked it up and she ended up winning 1st place, even beating a Golden Retriever and half sis Mata that day-- who was 3rd on a slower time!!!

Earlier that day, Jazzy was rolling around, asking for belly rubs. And her family complied. That night she collapsed and the whole family took her to the emergency clinic who determined she was bleeding internally due to probable hemangio of the spleen. They did the right thing and let her go peacefully. She had just turned 12 yrs 2 wks ago but what a life she lived.

I just feel so badly for the boys though... right at Christmastime. I hope they were all able to go out and get their tree and go sledding recently, as they used to do (they sent me all kinds of neat photos of their outings).

The "senior" crew (including her sister Fuji) and I took a memorial walk Sunday afternoon. The sun was shining when we left, but grey when we turned around for our home stretch. We did our normal "bobbing for cookies" drill on the way home in the canal. Pretty sure Jazzy has all the angels in Dog Heaven flicking her cookies and giving belly rubs on demand now.

I'm sorry to hear about Jazzy, both for you and her second family. I just had a nice chat with Lark's breeder last night and I know how even though these pups may have moved on to a new family, they are never far from your heart. You can tell from that photo of her with one of her boys that she was well and truly loved. Rest in Peace, Jazzy.

So, so sorry to hear of Jazzy's passing.

Truly understand you feelings when placing her. I saw tears in the rear view mirror when we left with Potion and Bandit. You have your heart invested and owned by these special dogs. It's great that she went to such a wonderful home and spread her special love and memories to many.

My deepest condolences to you and the family.

    Rest In Peace Jazz
