    My Beautiful Sandy girl

My pretty Sandy girl was our gentle giant. She was the friendliest dog you would ever met. I raised her from a 7 pound lap puppy to an 85 pound dog who still wanted to sit in my lap if I would let her. She always greeted people with something in her mouth. Our family struggled with her through her battle with arthritis in her hips and shoulders. We started her out on anti-inflamitories at 12 and progressed to steroid shots once a month. This summer she stopped getting up to go the bathroom and we added neurotin for her pain. She developed bed sores from lying on one side so long. I hated to see her go through all of this, but didn't feel ready yet because her sweet people-pleaser personality was still there and her appetite was great. Then in November we knew it was time because she would not even get up for food and had the most pathetic look in her eyes. The only time she looked happy that day was when she got in the truck to ride to the vet. It broke my heart to put her down, but our family agreed she was suffering so. I don't know if there will ever be a dog I will love like Sandy. She was 13 years and 4 months.

She was born 7/2002 and crossed rainbow bridge in November 2015.Sadly, we had also lost her chow mix companion of 10 years to tongue cancer suddenly in June. It has been hard to lose both within 5 months of each other.

Thank you everyone. Here is Sandy with her best friend-her Dog-Petey. He was a chow mix that showed up at our house after a hurricane starving with a chain embedded in his neck. We thought we would just try to care for him until animal shelters reopened, but of course it didn't work out that way. He became so attached to Sandy. He was a great dog and friend for 10 years until he had trouble eating. The vet thought it was a bad tooth and scheduled a cleaning. But when his tongue relaxed under, he was able to see a tennis ball tumor at the base of his tongue. We had no choice but to put him down. We were preparing ourselves for Sandy, but Petey was a complete shock. Both gone in 5 months.
