It will pop out during the heat because the vulva swells. See how it is after all the swelling goes down. Hoping too that it corrects itself. Glad to hear you are testing PH along with the crancaps. Its the best way to keep on top of it so you can catch a UTI in the earliest stages.

Good luck. Let us know how she is when her cycle is over.

Patty sorry I have not gotten back to you

my camera is broken and i will get a new one this weekend.
In the meantime, I have a question about the cranberry caps, can you get them at a drug store?

You can but a GNC would be better if you have one near you. Not all supplements are created equal. If you go to the drug store be sure and get a well known brand. And be sure there is no sugar in them

You want concentrate from fruit rather than juice. The one I use is a 12:1 concentrate.

Thanks Patty

There is a GNC in the mall, so I will go there instead.
Rosie was diagnosed with a UTI today she is on Clavamox for 14 days, I did ask the vet about cran caps and she agreed they are a good thing for her to be on, but not until this infection is gone. This vet welcomes anything holistic, and is willing to talk about natural remedies...what a relief! BTW, she said to wipe Rosie after each potty outing, to keep the area cleaner, she commented that pups her age (12 wks) usually do not clean down there very well, so we are wiping with unscented baby wipes..never thought I would have those in the house again.

curious as to why she says no crancaps with the antibiotics. Cranberry lines the bladder preventing bacteria from adhereing. If you get a chance to ask your vet why, I would like to hear what she says.

Anyway, just get her on the crancaps as soon as you are off the antibiotics.

I would also get her on live organism probiotic while on the meds. Give it 2-3 hours away from the meds and continue it for a week or two when meds are finished. This will replace the good bacteria that the meds are going to kill off.

Oh the vet said

That she didn't want anything else new in her system until the uti was cleared up. She didn't say anything negative.

What is a live organism probiotic?

an example is Multi Dophilus from www.progressivelabs.com Go there to read the ingredients. Live organism that needs refrigeration is better IMO than a pill you store in the cabinet. you can get then in a health food store too.

Probiotic is good bacteria that you want to put back in the system since the antibiotic kills off the good with the bad.

Thanks Patty

getting right on this now.

Been a long day here, dear Rosie figured out how to climb upstairs and she doesn't know how to get down them on all fours,so I had to install a baby gate at the bottom of the stairs, now she sits at the bottom step and barks to go up, No one is upstairs. I'm trying to figure this one out. LOL

Without checking back I am assuming Rossie is still very young. Than you are good with the gate. You don't want her climbing stairs on a regular basis until her growth plates close.

If she sleeps with you upstairs at night than okay let her go up at night and on the way down in the a.m. put a leash on her to give tension with and support her on the way down (while you may have to coax her a bit with treats) so she feels the support of the leash and doesn't feel like she will topple down.

This is like picking a horse up in the bit (catching him if he trips) so he does not fall....... if you know what I mean.

GracieH--Sorry I didn't respond to you sooner, not only do I have Josey in heat, I have sick kids! Yes, looking back, there were clues she had something going on...very restless and a lot of panting. She sleeps in our bedroom and was/is restless at night especially. During the day I have her gated in the kitchen and she hates it! I feel so bad for her, she sits and stares outside! I try to walk her still, being very careful where I take her...but she isn't getting her usual exercise. It is day 12 and I am happy to report that she is no longer an "innie," I'll be sure to report how it turns out!!

I had Josey at the vet's yesterday...she no longer has a recessed vulva! My vet was pleased with how her vulva had dropped down after having gone into heat. So it worked! I must admit, the heat part was a bit of a bother. She had to be tied/watched when out with us. Also, she wouldn't keep anything on, so she was gated in our kitchen. We all became a little stir-crazy! But, I would take that anyday over the surgery option, think that would be painful. She will be spayed in December. So, all in all, well worth the aggravation!

That is great news!!!!! A heat cycle can be a pain in the neck but well worth it to correct her vulva and avoid surgery.

Very happy all worked out for you and Josie.

recessed vulva

Read all the posts. Our vet did not tell us until after Brooke was spayed. The breeder said she had never heard of it. Our little girl also has a number of allergies. I think the breeder new of all these things in her dogs. Now what?????
