2-Year Old Female Lab in Kamloops, BC

    -tess2-jpg -tess1-jpg

Meet Tessa. She's a 2-year old lab who needs a home with an experienced guardian(s). The Kamloops BC SPCA notes she isn't a good dog for a first-time owner. She weighs 29.8 kg (about 66 lbs) and is spayed. She came into the Kamloops SPCA as a stray.

Tessa needs a home with someone who enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and long walks to tire her out. Tessa can be nervous of strangers, specifically men, and may react negatively (snapping/growling) to them so she does need some time to get to know them before being fully comfortable. Once she likes people, she is very affectionate, loves to be pet and playful. A home with no children is preferred due to her fearfulness. She has lived with another dog so may also do well with other dogs in the home though she does like to be "top dog" and can get a bit bossy at times. Tessa does not do well with cats or chickens.

I wish the BC SPCA would say whether a dog's been adopted but so far when I've checked with the branch FB page, that's been the case. Tessa's not listed any more so I'll say she's been adopted. When I was looking for a dog (Boomer), I met a lab more fearful than Tessa and yet was adopted, so the odds are good this is the case here. Lovely people out there taking on the challenge.

So has Canada gone to using the term "Guardian" (vs owner) too?

I didn't notice that until you pointed it out. I'm vaguely aware of the movement to give animals the same rights as people. I found a BC SPCA document that defines it this way:

    Guardian:
A person or organization that is primarily responsible for the welfare, care and management of an animal. An owner may be referred to as a guardian, but the term guardian ispreferred in order to express that the relationship is one of responsibility for the care of ananimal, not just ownership of property.

Well, if they are placing (w/o fee) to such a person then I'd agree, but otherwise, the person is an owner since dogs are property. It's complicated but the AR folks love this talk!

well, one shelter doesn't represent all of Canada

In rescue we used adopter. But I was curious so went to look at our local humane society...and they use "owners". But they use "right match", "your companion" as well throughout their pages (but it makes more sense in those context)

    Ottawa Humane Society A199648

The cutesy names for mixes bothers me a ton more than the guardian/owner discussion though FEW people actually says they have a mix anymore :P Unless they can't pinpoint two breeds
