Looking to re home 12 yr old Lab

I have a male 12 yr old lab as part of our family.Due to a job
relocation we need to move to Virginia. The rental there in Virginia
don't allow pets . We are looking to seek a caring home for our pet .
He is very good with kids and is current on all his shots. He is house
broken and very well behaved. We don't want to see him going to a
shelter and therefore looking for a caring foster home. we will be willing to contribute to
his monthly expenses and continue donating to the cause. Please let me know if anyone can assist .

So you are looking for a foster home to take him till you can find a place that does allow dogs? Rescues might be able to help you with that, I think you should contact some anyway. Any foster home hopes to eventually place the animal in a forever home so maybe they could help you. Good luck. Hope you all get back together soon.

Thanks snowshoe for your kind words. There was a family which committed to taking care of him prior to us signing the lease in VA. They backed off after the fact we signed the lease. I am looking to buy a house in VA within a year and at that time can look at getting him back if doesnt find a better home in the meantime.

I think with a senior, you may need to think about rehoming the dog permanently. While generous in spirit thinking about taking the dog back in a year, with the older dogs they may not have another year (we have a 13 y/o that's in decline). If you were not able to include your dog in your new life, I would make sure he's with a good new home for his remaining time.

Thanks JenC. What you have suggested makes sense and praying that he finds a home.

How can you do this to your 12 year old dog? Wouldn't it have been better to find an apartment that allowed a dog?

It amazes me how anyone can let go of a dog they have had for 12 years...unbelievable.

I agree...I know it's a lot harder to find a place to live that allows dogs (especially "big dogs") but I could never even imagine leaving my girls behind or not having them greet me every day! I am looking to relocate as well but won't even pursue any home that tells me "no dogs". No dogs=no business from me and my pups!

Have you looked into an "emotional support animal?" I've read that places can't turn you down if your dog falls into that category. With me, I just lost my dad to ALS three months ago and my dogs are pretty much all I have. They are 100% crucial in my life right now!

People amaze me. How can a person give up a dog that has known no other family for 12 years. Makes me sick to death.
