Looking to re-home an 8 year old lab

    Hello-

My family and I have an 8 year old chocolate lab- Sadie. Sadie has been a part of our family since she was a puppy and it saddens us that we must find a new home
for her. We have recently moved and no longer have a place to keep her. We are all gone 12-14 hours per day and she is home alone without much room to move. We feel that her quality of life isn't good and that she deserves a better home. Please let me know if you are interested, would like more information or would like to meet her.

    Thank you so much!

Have you contacted local lab rescues? You have to be very careful with rehoming as there are some very evil people out there.

Is she neutered? Is she up to date on vaccinations?

Hi Poptop- yes I have tried local lab rescues and there is nothing available. Yes she is up to date on vaccinations but not neutered.

Maxx&Emma- yes it makes me very sad too. We have gone through circumstances in the last few years that have been really hard for our family. And had financial problems and I have felt as if she has been neglected because there were times she needed medical care and we couldn't afford it.

It makes me incredibly sad to be searching for a new home for her. I just feel that she could be getting so much more than what we are able to give her and I don't see our circumstances changing in the foreseeable future.

I'm with tanya, regarding spaying her . there are folks out there who at this late date will make her a baby factory.

is there no one that can come in during the day, let her out and play with her for a bit? it seems so sad, after so long, to have to give her up.

I just want to mention that most breed rescues usually don't accept owner turn ins. Not because they don't want to, but because there is a shortage of fosters, and their priority is to save those Labs that are in high kill shelters, where they're killed just because they "take up space."

If you can keep your dog, whom you've had tor all of her life, it would be far far better. Hire a dogwalker to come in and take her out. Or even a responsible teen from the area high school. Anything. Dogs are not disposable. Especially with an excuse like, I don't have time for her.

You need to keep calling and searching until you find a reputable rescue to take your girl. What about the breeder she came from? Most reputable breeders will take their dogs back at any point in their life. They don't want their dogs in shelters or rescues. I do not say this to be rude, just facts - my life has been sad, ugly and in a shambles on more than one occassion but my dogs, like my children, were never considered disposable. My commitment to my dogs was never less than for life and the very best I could do for them. I owe them that, they didn't ask to come home with me. My heart breaks for your sweet girl.

I'm so sorry that you are going thru something that forces you to give up your girl that has only known home to be with you. At 8 years old she needs love and she needs stability. Don't stop until you've found someone who will make time for her & love her & make good on the commitment to keeping a dog forever. She deserves more than you are willing to give. So sorry to hear.
My family *is* my daughter & dogs. I'm with Maxx&Emma-I don't mean to be rude, but it has to be said again & again that dogs are not disposable. There is always a way isn't there? Especially after 8 years. 8.
Maybe you could gate a room for her during the day so that she can move. And maybe you can try to get home to take care of her or have someone come in to give her attention until you find her *permanent* home. With love.

At the very least, get her spayed before she is placed. In many places there are programs for low income families.

Lab rescues I have worked with do take owner surrenders because in those I have worked with, purebred labs are rare in shelters. Why won't your local rescue take her? She should at least be on a waiting list for a foster home.

    Have you contacted the breeder?

What about lab rescues in neighboring state?

    Your local lab club?
