Scooter
He came from no place and arrived at some place. My place. Now his place forever. He walked down my driveway.A small ball of fur.I said to myself "look at that dopey puppy" what's he gonna do.I was changing my stock MC exhaust pipes to straight pipes, the kind you love to hate.As I cranked up the bike this crazy lab pup went under the bike. When I shut the bike off he went under the pick up truck.I tried to call him out from underneath, but he just looked at me as if I was dumb.So I cranked up the bike and out he came, sat by the bike while it ran.He was about 10 weeks old.He did this several times. In disbelief I called out to my family to show them this dopey pup.I bet that they could not get him out from under the truck, but I could without calling to him.I won.I had him for 5 1/2 years and did everthing together. He would run the woods like the wind, he would swim in the lake like an otter, and was smarter than a whip.I called him Scooter. At the house and back yard he would watch my every move with those loving eye's.I could tell when he wanted to run and swim.At times he would bring me my sneaker, flip flop, or socks. He passed suddenly.Very fast. The vet tried but...Scooter had some type of intestinal cancer and it ruptured. No warning. He never slowed down. Now I'm real down. Not sure if ever I'll get another like him.It hurts real, real, bad.Little about me I went in the Army in 67.Took a trip to South East Asia (Nam).Stayed for 20 years most of it as a paratrooper.Than law enforcement for another 20 plus.I thought that nothing would hurt this bad cause I saw it all.I'm a little up in age but a little lazy at times.Scooter with all his energy and love got me going for miles on end day in and day out.He made me feel so much alive. He past 3 Nov 0430hrs.The ordeal for him started the 0900hrs 2 Nov.I cannot bring myself to eat anything going on 2 day's.Forgive me for my rambling on, but I miss him so darned much.

I am so very sorry for Scooter's passing. What a wonderful pup who shared his life with you and you with him. It's always amazing how they pop into our lives and grap our hearts. It's so devastating when they go so young, so unexpected.
DH and I are of the same age group as you and have been through a lot of the same experiences in life. But I have seen DH fall apart when we have lost a furkid. At this point grief totally takes over your life. I know you don't believe me right now, but it will lessen. After a while the years of memories will dull the ache you have now. Always remember, we are here, as a community we have very broad shoulders to lean on and help. When you can, please tell us more about Scooter, if you have pictures we would love to see them. My heart goes out to you. Rest In Peace Sweet Scooter.

Dead Scooter, he was a true friend to you. He sure was handsome! It will hurt forever, but someday you will be able to look back without tears. If you are able to open uour heart again, try a rescue lab, they seem to know that their life has been saved and have extra love to give.
RIP Scooter. |

Although much too short, it certainly was a life well lived. My heartfelt sympathy to you. Godspeed Scooter, rest easy.

The story of how Scooter came into your life is fantastic. Sounds like he picked you and made himself at home. You gave him a great life!
I am so very sorry for your loss. I know how much you must be missing Scooter. I was very surprised at how deeply it hurt when I had to say goodbye to my Kerri. It does get easier, but let yourself feel the grief now. It will come in waves, today is one of those days for me. You get through it, but to do that you MUST take care of yourself. Scooter would want you to keep going. Make yourself eat because you need the strength, grieving takes a ton of energy. You probably feel like you have been hit by a truck. My heart goes out to you, please take care of yourself. When you're ready, it helps to talk about it. Run free, sweet Scooter!

Scooter(thank you)
I want to thank all of you for your support and understanding. I was asked to post a few pictures and alittle more about Scooter. He was one of a kind very smart. He would study me and my every move. When he would want to go for a run in the woods, field, or lake, he would take my sneaker, sock, or poke his nose at his collar, look up at me as if to say time for you to get off your lazy butt and let's go.And of coirse away we went for hours on end. When I a knee rreplacement 2 years ago he knew that I was down and out.He would come up on the coutch and lay with me for hours.I do have a lot of pictures and will post his first arrival, his mid stage here, and just a few day's before he crossed the Rain Bow Bridge.I would like to have another, but I feel very guilty thinking of another at this time.I'm afraid the I would be looking for Scooter in another and would fear of another lose.I ust can't see how I could have missed his illness. No warning or outward signs.Just had his teeth cleaned to prevent any type of illness.Went to the Vet for the least little problem to make sure he would be ok. Again thank you all for your lind words and understanding. From Scooter's Dad and companion..

Thanks for posting a few pictures. Look at his sweet face! He was your friend and I know you miss Scooter terribly. I'm so sorry. Take it one day at a time, one foot in front of the other. I'll be honest, I grieved more after losing my Kerri than I have for some relatives. At first, I felt guilty, felt like I was wallowing, I was shocked at how hard it was and how much it hurt. But she was with me nearly 24 hours a day, since I work from home, she was always by my side, then one day she was gone. It takes a while to adjust to that.
It's OK to let yourself grieve. He was your buddy and your sidekick. It will take a while, but eventually you will be able to think more of the fun times together, and not be so sad. Don't beat yourself up about not knowing something was wrong. Unfortunately, sometimes this kind of thing just happens. Don't feel like you have to get another dog right away. When the time is right, you'll know. I was worried that I would compare the new dog to my old dog, or try to replace her, but as we searched for the right dog, I realized all of them are so different, you just make a new bond with that next dog. My heart goes out to you. You'll be in my thoughts.
