What great pictures, thank you for posting them. The first one is like "I'm trying Dad, just don't let go yet" and the second "I got it, here I come". Perfect selection of pictures.
Dogs are so stoic and it is very hard at times to tell something is going on. Don't beat yourself up about not knowing sooner. I took Potion to the vet for what I thought was a simple urinary tract infection only to have to say goodbye that same night.
Give yourself time to grieve and remember, but concentrate on the good times. Talk to those you know will understand, it really helps. We only get seniors so having a furkid for 5 years is a very long time for us. It usually takes me 3 months to even start looking again. I too was afraid that I would compare, but each furkid has such a unique personality that they become so special in their own way. Potion was our perfect lady, sophisticated. Melody is our spitfire, even at 13, with an endearing smile and eyes that melt my heart each time I look at her. Bandit is our rascal, the youngest we have ever had, got him at 7, and he is 9 now. He is our lover, footwarmer and morning alarm clock.
When you least expect it, a pair of brown eyes will look deep into yours and you won't be able to walk away. No, he/she will not be the same, but that's the way it should be, each one is special and brings us new joys.
Thinking of you and wishing you peace. You were truly blessed.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It is truly amazing how deeply our lives can be touched by our dogs. Thinking of you and your family during this difficult time.

Having just lost Reece I can totally understand how you feel and want to tell you that my husband wasted no time in bringing a puppy into our lives. We were without a dog for 5 whole days before he brought Chief home. I was skeptical at first, even angry that he brought him home without a discussion.. but it was and is what I needed. He is the most wonderful dog in the whole world.. and he is what my heart needed.. and my DH knew it.. I can not function without a dog.. I was so lost and hurt and most of all I was MAD.. that Reece was taken from me so suddenly and so foolishly. You will think of Scooter often.. and you will remember him daily.. and in time it will lessen.. but you never forget that love... Chief could never replace Reece.. but he sure is making new memories for me.. and helping me heal from Reece..

Vet

The Vet changed the story from cancer to some type of intestinal situation forgot the name he called it. It was a long name. He said the pathologist, himself, and another where discussing it. They didn't know what exactly caused this intestial problem nor when. One said maybe it was an injury. The other said maybe it was caused by some sort of scrapping in the intestinal tract. The vet said it may have been caused by intestinal telescoping when he had bowel movements by straining causing the wall of the intestinals to stretch, get weak, and than allowed the infection to get into his system. But they all seem to agree that it was "a fluke and rare accurence" nothing could have prevented this. Not sure if I believe this.

I am so very sorry for your loss. It was too soon to lose a good friend. I know- I lost my heart dog earlier this year to cancer. It just rips your heart out. I hope you can take comfort in thinking about the Rainbow Bridge. It's a place where our furbabies go to wait for us to join them. While they are there they play and romp and eat and sleep and generally have a great time. Someday when the time is right we'll cross over the Bridge and be together again. For them time doesn't pass, they can see us so they don't miss us, and I'm guessing they wonder why it is we grieve when they are RIGHT there for us. So I bet if you look for it you'll see the signs that he isn't far away.

As to another dog- My pup Debo picked one out for me when he thought I was ready. It was sooner than I thought I was but he was right. The pup he brought to me is the happiest creature on earth and he started to help me learn to smile and laugh again. When the time is right Scooter will help you too!

Take care of yourself!

I am so very sorry for your loss. I know the feeling all too well. I lost my boy Cooper to cancer 2 years ago and my boy Sam to a tragic car accident 1 year ago. Both losses were extremely painful, but when you lose them so quickly and so young it really takes a toll on you. I will say, it does get better, but it takes time. I still cry over my boys especially since Cooper's 2 year anniversary of his passing is coming up on Thanksgiving. That day it bittersweet for me. Please take care of yourself. Soon you will remember Scooter (love that name and so appropriate for how you found him) and laugh and smile instead of tears.

Hugs to you,
Nancy

Last few day's

This picture was taken a few day's before Scooter crossed over the rainbow bridge. Nothing seemed out of place. I think this picture was taken maybe 3 to 6 day's prior to the the lousest day in our lives.

Clutch

My heart breaks for you. I know the not eating thing...I was the same way when we lost our Sigi in September. He was my best friend...my boy...my life. Our house is just an empty shell right now...still.

Like you...we lost Sigi suddenly to a twisted stomach. It was the worst night I've ever had.

Yesterday was his Birthday..he would have been 11. And I'm not ashamed to admit that we have been looking for a new boy to bring into our home. No one will ever compare to Sigi. But we have alot of love to give to a new pup...and we just know that Sigi would want for us to give another guy a good, loving home.

My H has been a cop for 15 years...Sigi was his life too. I'd let him outside to greet him every time he came home from work. He works 12 hour shifts...but you'd think the way Sigi greeted him everytime, that H was gone for weeks lol.

Your Scooter was adorable. And he knows how much you love him.

Not ready

My wife was hurt real bad also by Scooter's lose. I didn't know how much untill now. At this time she don't want to get another lab or anything. She kind of said she hurts bad and don't want to have to go through that again. She was very attached to that boy. We are doing a little better but we still look for Scooter in all the places he usually claimed in the house, miss the happy, exciting greatings when we would come home. We alway's looked for those greatings like he ain't seen you in years. Now when either me or her would come through the door it ain't there and it's suppose to be. It will take time and maybe not to to long another will be driving us crazy zooming around the room, grabbing an arm with those sharp baby teeth, and just being darn right funny. Again thank you all....
