Dakota's surgery is done, now we wait.

I'm so glad it's over. She was very foggy and unsteady last night due to the anesthesia I guess. She whined a bit, ate and just laid around. All through the night I was awake checking on her to make sure she was ok. She slept right next to me as usual and this morning seemed pretty stiff when I went back in to let her know breakfast was ready. She wanted to jump right out of bed but was probably in a bit of pain. I helped her down, she ate, went out to go potty and instead of a walk I took her back inside to rest. I gave her the antibiotic and her 1/2 of a Rimadyl. About an hour later she was whiny again and laying down pretty still. I started getting concerned and took the cone off her, she relaxed a bit and was interested in our breakfast ( we eat after the dogs)
It was time for me to leave for work so I put the cone back on her its an inflatable one so its much more comfy than the big old plastic ones....she started whining more and didn't seem to want to settle. I left for work, and checked the camera when I got here. She was laying on the bed whining and that scared me. I'm checking it every 15 minutes or so and now she seems to have settled a bit more on the bed laying ( as best she can with the cone around her neck) and resting. It looks like shes sitting up but her chin is resting on the cone. Mojo please that she can recover smoothly and that this will turn out to be manageable....damn cancer. I'm hoping the margins are clear and big, looks like the skin on her leg's pulled pretty taut and that makes me happy because I feel like that means they took BIG margins. I have no idea if that's true though.
And in the scheme of things I felt another lump on her neck-looks nothing like what was just removed, is very very small in fact I thought it was a tick til I saw it. but...wth. *sigh*

    Poor baby!

I can imaging with the skin pulled tight, Dakota is uncomfortable.

Sending tons of mojo and prayers that the margins are clear and that she heals quickly. Gentle hugs being sent.

    thanks girls...
i just checked the camera again and she is whining a little but quietly...and it looks like the front of the cone is a bit wet with drool...Im not sure if this is normal? Wouldn't the rimadyl have taken away the pain? I'm praying this is not being caused by the rimadyl.....I wonder if she's just upset about the cone?? I'd think she'd have given up on that by now and just gone to sleep. She must be uncomfortable. I cant leave work unless I really need to....

so awful to see them uncomfortable

Good thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery and results are clear.

If she is whining and stressed it's normal the cone would be a bit wet.

--do you think its normal for her to be this way today though? her surgery was yesterday, they finished up about 1:30 pm....I guess Im just being nervous. I should maybe stop checking the camera. Last check she was quiet all I could hear was China's snoring....

Why is there no option to thank you under your name?

I don't know, every dog is diffrent. I have only had two that moaned and whined after surgery out of all my fosters. Penny was certainly off after her TPLO (though no whining, she would just stand and wobble - freaked me right out cuz plus I didn't want her falling over and hurting the darn thing). And each surgery can be different Could be anesthetic or maybe she needs more pain management for now. Doesn't sound like it's pain per say as she didn't do it til you left. She may jsut be feeling low and really needy at this time.

She started it while I was there but when I took the cone off she seemed happier. I cant be sure it was that though because I had to leave shortly after putting it back on her....
