    Hi,

Sorry to hear this is what brought you to our site. I have not had a dog with LP but there are several others on here who have dogs or had dogs with LP. My impression is that very few have had their dogs get the tie back procedure but I won't speak for all of them. I just don't want you to go away discouraged until you've heard from some of the members on here, so stick around for a day or so.

I'm so sorry you and Suzy have had to go through this, it sounds very stressful for you both.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

We didn't do surgery with our boy. He lived about 3 years and we managed it just fine. The throat was the least of our problems. LP will lead to rear end weakness and muscle wasting, that's what eventually got Hudler.

My experiance exactly. Zeke is fine until he gets excited. We just calm him down. He doesn't take heat well anymore. We watch him. His back end is getting weak. Muscle atrophy. Hard to watch my once talented athlete decline. He is happy. We just do what he can when he can. We won't get the surgery. Going on 2 years Vic

thank you for responding. that is very good to hear. i was told by vet that the surgery was only treatment.i do not want to euthanize suzy either. just manage her she is an excitable girl her bark is very hoarse prob from the intubations 6 days post surgery feel her condition is much worse than before. very scary when she cant breathe. going to my vet tom to see about alternative treatment. thank you so much for responding!
