Doesn't sound like you have a diagnosis yet. Most Labs with ruptured cruciate ligament will obviously favor the affected leg over the other rear leg. They typically abduct the knee joint (shift it laterally or outward) to compensate as the pain increases with full knee extension. When I hear a client tell me that his dog does not want to get up, I think of other problems before a knee injury (unless it is both).. Did they check his back, hips, both knees? All that said, IMHO, I would never recommend CCL surgery on a Lab over 10 years old. Rest, pain meds, joint support and some good old water therapy and that joint will tighten on its own in a few months. Good luck.
