Dakota is panting a bit much...

The last 2 days its been warmer here about 80 and so in the afternoons i took her and China for a short walk in the park. Dakota leads the way as usual and we went to the stream to cool off. Back home and it seemed to take her longer to cool down than usual. I attributed that to the fact that she's 12 1/2 and we're slowly getting back in to the swing after winter. Simultaneously I bought new glucosamine & fish oil from Nusentia. She hesitated when I added it to her food so I stopped, put her back on her regular glucosamine.
Last night she panted most of the night although not heavy, enough to be awake. I took her out at 4:30 she pooped & peed, no problems. Ate breakfast normally (without that added new stuff) She also hesitated to take a carrot which she usually never hesitates. She slowly took her other treats. Slowly. She never takes them slow. I just checked her on the camera and she was panting. What now?? I hate this worry....doesn't panting mean pain??

I had the same issue with Ram the past two days when we had warmer temps, too extreme.

I really hope that's all it is. Back when she had the surgery for the MCT we also did bloodwork and urinalysis to check for diabetes and stuff like that...she's basically been tested pretty well as recent as December...

Brooks has been panting way more than normal. I think when you go from 40 to 80 degrees in 5 days the dogs are going to feel it.

Our Zo has issues when the weather gets warm. I don't exercise her as much as a result. I would recommend giving her a quiet day then seeing if she eats normally. It may be time for her to slow down.

Cookie also pants more now with the warmer weather and he gets tired more easily. He never tolerated the heat well, but since he is older now I think it's even harder for him. He doesn't pant during the night though. Is it hot in your house?

Hope it's just the sudden change and she goes back to normal I found Rocky needs his own fan. Not so much in the winter but it gets warmer up in the bedrooms and there was the odd night in the last few months I had to turn it on. And he gets his own fan all summer.

But I wanted to say this thread gave me some strength. We went up to 22 celcius on Tuesday and Rocky has a HORRIBLE day. Horrible. And this was following three fairly crap days. I am hoping it was the sudden change and inability to acclimatize and that while summer will be harder, it won't be THAT bad every single day

--I think it is time to slow her down. And it hurts me. Last night she was fine-I rushed home half expecting to find a problem but she was fine. I didn't add any extras to her dinner & she ate it fine. Later after it cooled down even more I took the girls to the park and Dakota lead the way as usual-I always have to slow her down. Back home she recovered fine and slept through the night no panting. Now the night before it was a bit warmer in the house than I like it to be for the dogs...but not hot. Although maybe warmer to me is too warm for her at her age?
This morning I was stupid, thought maybe I can slip a bit of fish oil in her food without the liquid glucosamine...she stopped eating with about a 1/3 left in the bowl. I threw the rest out, wiped the bowl and added back in some canned that she likes and she ate it. So maybe its not a not wanting to eat issue but just the darn liquid gluc. and fish oil. Tonight I will not add either of those. When Montana stopped eating, my stomach just dropped and for months I would feel nervous at feeding times because I knew what was to come...so I don't want to think it is a serious issue if she doesn't gobble her food...
Anyway she seems stiff jumping off the bed in the morning for breakfast and slow to rise other times. Should I get her on sometime for the pain of arthritis? Maybe the nighttime panting was from that....
I'm just so thankful for every day with her.

--You know when she pants on warmer nights I do think it is too warm for her-because she is older...I guess that bit does make a difference. I like it cooler for her at night, almost cold.

Gabe is also panting more. This crazy weather everyone is having, hot then cold then rainy cold then hot dry==

I think it takes some time for man and animal to 'get use to' the prevailing temps and the body to adjust.

Sending easing MOJO for Dakota and you.
