13 year old lab- third eyelid issue- please help

    Hi everyone,

so by the title I believe this is what my lab has. It happened about two weeks ago I noticed that her eye lid was on top of her eye and would not retreat. Now it is very hard to see her eyeball at all times. We went to the vet and she gave us some cream and pills to see if it would help, but it hasn't improved or got worse. It doesn't seem to bother my dog at all and she still reacts normally to things she sees. I was just wondering if there is anything I can do or if anyone has had to deal with this same issue. My lab is def. now but is a total sweetheart and still goes up and down the stairs like no ones business!

thanks for any help you can provide!

    Hello and Welcome!

From what you are describing, it sounds like cherry eye. Some breeds are more prone to it than others. It can be surgically fixed. But, with a 13 year old, I would try for a nonsurgical solution if at all possible.

    Looking forward to pictures.

Cherry eye is typically a swelling of that third lid, literally looks like a cherry stuck in their eye.

If your vet hasn't been able to help, I would seek a second opinion with a vet that specializes in eyes.

Google Canine Opthamology CT and you get some places: https://www.aecwilton.com/ for one. This is another Eye Care for Animals - The Leaders in Veterinary Ophthalmology - Eye Care for Animals
