Oh, geez....I hope he'll be OK. Is he acting normal today?
While I was cleaning the bathroom he fell asleep on my bed. When I finished I checked on him, he was still sleeping and I went downstairs and sat on the couch to watch TV. About ten minutes later I heard him get up and then boom, boom, boom down the stairs. I waited for him to get up on his own and when he did he stood there and peed on the floor and then sat on his bed but he wouldn't look at me.
After I cleaned up the pee I called him into the kitchen and had him do a couple of sit-stands and he seemed fine. We did our usual short block walk at 10:00 pm and he didn't have any issues. I guess I should have woke him up when I went downstairs.
Oh, geez....I hope he'll be OK. Is he acting normal today?

Oh no. How many stairs? I bet he will be stiff later on. Poor boy.

Poor guy- so scary! Are your steps carpeted? I hate when things like that happen. I like that you had him do a few sit-stands, not just so you could assess him but so he could do something familiar successfully. See what a smart, good boy you are?

Aww ... poor guy! Hope he doesn’t have any repercussions from his fall.

He seemed fine this morning, but I gave him some Metacam just in case. 12 carpeted stairs with padding and there's a mat on the floor at the bottom.

aw man, poor Ram Glad to hear he seems fine
I block stairs now. Rocky can't do stairs safely. For the most part he doesn't try unless he has his harness and I am holding it. But randomly we've had incidents where he'd just go on his own. once I was in the basement grabbing something from the freezer and I hear "boom boom boom" (he walks very heavy). he seemed fine. Yesterday he was heading down before I could put his harness on. He did ok but takes the last ones a bit too fast.

Poor Ram! Is he having back end issues? He seems so young yet!
Kimber has pretty much given up on using her back legs on stairs. This works okay when it's just a step or two down. Our front entrance has three fairly steep steps, and she kind of launches herself down them. Most of the time, it's a pretty controlled landing. Sometimes, though, it's more of a fall, which scares her. I've been trying to coax her to use the side exit through the garage, but she's resistant. She'll follow me about halfway, then stop right near the kitchen and looks at me like, "No, we go out front. I eat out front." I have to leash her out and almost push her out the side door- which also has a step, and because she's resisting, she doesn't go down it nicely. Sigh.

He does have some back end weakness, and his surgery knee will at times buckle when he's walking. It's taking so long to warm up, and I just want to get him swimming again.
OH! ok this explain rocky's launching at the end then.
Rock goes thru bouts of fearing the stairs. sometimes out of the blue, sometimes after a stumble. I was going to stop using them (which would change our entire living situation - I live in a walk up so the main floor with the kitchen and living area is the second floor - up a full set of stairs). but the vet said as long as it's safe keep doing them it's good exercise. we do them 3x a day. The bedroom is up another level, but ever night he walks to the bottom of the stairs there and waits for me. He isn't ready to sleep on the main floor. I am pretty shocked he is still doing them to be honest.
I'm happy it's so cold, we've had walks with no or minimal panting! i'm pretty shocked!
