Hudler had rear end wasting due to his LP. From everything I looked in to, there is nothing to stop or fix what's wrong. Pain meds make any discomfort more bearable. The deterioration will continue, so make every day a happy fun day!

This?? Can I use this to literally lift her off the bed or would that hurt her belly?

I've watched pitbulls and parolees and you can see everyone easily picking up a 50-60 lbs. dog but I feel like I would hurt them...I just really dont even know the right way to do it. And because I never do Dakota shies away-doesn't like me to pick her up.
Anyway-i started her out low & slow this spring-20 minutes increased to 30 and now we can do an hour but I've got to stop her midway so she gets her breath back or else that dog will go all out and pant the rest of the night.
Im wondering if something else is going on now. In her poop last night there was a bit that seemed like rubbery. If it were softer I would say mucousy but it was firm poop, with a stretch of gum like stuff-like if you stretch out chewing gum. Gross I know but...and on it there was a tiny tiny bit of red blood. Tiny amount.
I do worry over everythign adn I kow I just need to enjoy every moment with her. I've got to try harder to do that.

Could the gum-like stuff have been a worm? Rubbery stretch...blood....

Regarding the panting, have you tried to wet her down either before or after you go for a walk? If Ram can get wet on a walk, then there's no panting all. He's like a completely different dog.

Oh I checked thoroughly and it was not a worm. It was like 2 inches wide and about 3 inches long. Gross but i seriously used the Shop Rite bag to mush through and it was almost as if her poop would have been mucous-y but the mucous hardened. Gross I know....nothing out of the normal since.
The panting-still occasionally at night. And yes she gets in the water and seems to really enjoy the rest of her walk but even if the water is the last thing we do-she still will pant in the middle of the night. I'm think it its some type of discomfort or pain. If it were from her legs though would it wake her up and be hurting while she's laying down? Also this morning when we went out with my dd to wait for the bus, Dakota just laid down.

Laryngeal Paralysis. Jolie had it too, and the hind-end wasting was much worse for her than the breathing problem (which never got bad at all for her). It’s a neurological problem that can affect the rear as well as the larynx.

If it's arthritis, a pain reliever can be helpful. Kimber is much more mobile a couple of hours after she's had her rimadyl. Like others said, backend weakness can only be slowed, not reversed, in old dogs like ours. Keep her active as much as you can. Kimber also takes Glycoflex III and fish pills, but the rimadyl and the exercise are the game changers. Also, she goes to the holistic vet for acupuncture and chiropractic work once per month; those have been really good for her.

For getting off the bed, I assist her by lifting up her back end while she jumps down with her front end. We have a set of stairs that she climbs (with me guiding her back end) to get her on the bed.

Those Help 'Em Up Harnesses are really nice--we ordered the less expensive Solv It Harness for Molly. It is the full one, but it is in 2 pieces & you can use them hooked together, or independently if you want to. It works good--we used it in the winter because we had a lot of snow & ice, & for awhile Molly was really having a lot of trouble getting up. She can't take Rimadyl, but our vet started her on the new med called Galliprant, & since Molly started on it I have not had to use the lifting harness. I know it is not a cure, but it is helping her be a lot more comfortable for now! I give her Cosequin also.
