    Skin Issues

When I got China back in October she itched all night long. I put her on k9 axvantix and switched her food. She's been much better since. Still a little itchy but nothing like those first nights. Last Sunday I saw a bump on her head. It's gone down but now there are tiny areas of clumps of small bits of fur coming I utilize and a little blood. There and and on her cheek. What in Lord's name now??? Gosh I hope it's not like mange or scabies.o.m.g. it's a strange angle and it's not the dark spot an over her eye. It's right in the middle of her forehead.-14991359806642065427851-jpg

So those spots seemed to be getting better. Then this morning I see 2 huge welt type things _same as the first-and a bleeding spot with them. wt???? Only thing I noticed is when I went out to let out the chickens she wandered a bit off to the back edge of our yard where the grass is higher..sniffing around. Could something have bitten her?? Could it be some type of bug or poison ivy? Has anyone had experience with mange? It seemed to be a bit painful when I tried to spread the fur to see the skin so I couldn't really get a good look. I was thinking about horse flies but I didn't see any...I was going to just buy more k9 advantix to apply....but Im not sure id I should take her in. I had no benadryl either to give her and I was leaving for work too -I dont like to give the dogs something for the first time before I leave for work (in case of reaction)..Im at a loss....

I believe products like Revolution and Bravecto kill mange/mites in addition to their flea/tick properties. I think they have to be used every couple weeks for 3 doses, but you would want to check with a Vet of course. Advantix does not address mange/mites to my knowledge.

Benedryl would probably relieve the immediate reaction to whatever caused the outbreak. I took Griffin to the emergency vet over memorial day weekend because he had a bad reaction to possibly a bug bite. He was running around the house crazy looking around like something was biting him. He also unfortunately has allergies of some sort on a regular basis.

I believe mange/mites present with patches of hair loss, so not sure that's the case with your dog. It could be an allergic reaction to something though, with the swelling, hives, etc...I hate to give the standard answer to call the Vet, but it may make sense in this case.
    Griffin growing up!

Thanks guys. I guess I have to get her in. unbelievable. Cant catch a break with these girls it seems.
Anyway these areas-I only first noticed the blood (small amount but on her almost white fur it stands out) then the bump....I just was concerned about mange/mites first because i know one kind can be transferred to people and I my daughter is always with China. They are constantly touching. Im going to call when I get out of work.

Doesn’t look/sound like mange or mites to me - more like an allergic reaction to a sting or bite of some sort. Either way, if it isn’t clearing up quickly, I’d get it looked at - you don’t want it turning into a hot spot.

The more I think about it the more I think you're right- a bite or sting. The lumps must be sore because when I touch them she reacts. No scratching though. We've got an appointment for tomorrow but I'm wondering if I may just wait a few days and see. And definitely keep her on leash in the yard. I may use the appointment for Dakota instead because I've been wanting to have them take a look and see if there is any type of medicine for her back end.....

It may be worth talking to a specialist, vet dermatologist. Ours here did amazing things for my first lab lily.

Im not sure if we've even got a specialist nearby....will look into that. In the meantime I think I've decided to take China-the lumps have not gone down. The first took a few days but with the bleeding-I think Im going to bring her in today. Poor thing. Still no scratching, just lumps and blood.
