I don't dilly and I don't dally but by the time I come back down he's panting so much that we're only outside long enough for him to poop.

At the beginning of June I took him for an assessment at PT and he had lost some muscle in his back end when they did his measurements compared to when we were there after his surgery. We've been going every Saturday since then for the underwater treadmill and his surgery leg doesn't buckle anymore while he's walking. With all the rain we had in June and now with humidity he hasn't been swimming much. I would like to find some way to be able to control the excitement panting.
always about the food isn't it! seems to be excitement for food for Rocky. I thought we were on the right track this morning as it's cooler and there was just one tiny bit of panting and he even got up the stairs fine. But after eating while waiting for his kong and following me around he got very panty. And they are deep pants with the LP not just a light pant.

I can't even start figuring out how possibly I could reduce Cookie's panting if I had to. That boy gets excited about everything.

yeah But it's not really "panting". I"d have to post a video. it starts suddenly and is a heavy deep "pant". it's breathing issues not really a pant. The one thing I have going for me is he is generally laid back.

So things have gotten worse, he pants going around the block. It's not the heat/temps I suspect he's declined and it's due to either just the physical exercise/excitement. This doesn't bode well as once we add heat he won't be walking at all. I'm pretty bummed. I know walks are not the be all end all but he does NOT do his business in the yard. Even first thing in the morning it can take well over 5 minutes before he pees on a walk never mind poop. So we're going to be struggling to get him to do his friggin business very soon. It also means there will be zero relief once the fall comes. Other than not having to be up at 5am to take him out.
Changed up the morning routine and it was a bit better than earlier in the week but he panted waiting for his kong. I also didn't do his stretches as those get him exited too

I am just upset it's all happening fast.

Oh Tanya, I am so sorry. I really hope he feels better soon. Hugs to you. I wish I had something wise to say, but I have no experience with LP whatsoever.
