Just wanted to say I'm sending along lots of hugs, positive thoughts & prayers for your precious China! So hard when our babies get old! I hope China will be fine for a long time yet......
China seems to be at times, breathing rather fast when she lies down. I first thought maybe she was just calming down from playing or walking but even my daughter noticed it. She goes back to recheck her hotspots in less than 2 weeks so I'm going to try to get a video to show the vet. I'm hoping this is no big deal but I googled. I hope it's not the mammary cancer coming back in her chest. Or heartworm. Or heart trouble. Ugh. Today at the park it was clear that Dakota was tolerating the humidity much better than China. It wasn't even that hot or humid, a bit warm so I cut the walk short, stayed in the shade but at one point I looked at China and she seemed tired. She wanted to stop. She's not quite 10 yet and Dakota's 13....yet Dakota looked more fit cardio-wise.. any experiences similar?

My experience is sort of the reverse. Xray for something else revealed Whisper had an enlarged heart. I was warned to watch out for heavy breathing, panting, exercise intolerance but never saw any of those signs.
Mention it to your Vet. As an attentive owner you are likely to notice signs of change that no one else can see yet. Good thoughts.

Read up on Laryngeal Paralysis. Our 12 y/o Grace has been panting more than usual, and when I asked the vet and she heard it, she said it was probably the start of that. Our Jed who's 9, does the same thing. At their ages, you just manage it, basically keep them cool in the heat and no strenuous exercise.

Thanks everyone. I will check on the laryngeal paralysis, although I thought that was more panting....this is not so much panting but breathing fast, with her mouth closed and mostly when she's trying to rest. She does go after her ball a few times but then she'll stop. Like she's had enough. I'm worried about her heart. I'm stressed about cost, I hope it can be found with minimal testing

I thought heart issues are associated with coughing. Maybe she is just dreaming? Or maybe she is hot and breathes faster.

I noticed this sometimes in the various dogs I've had but it's never been an issue. Hoping it's nothing in your case as well (sending good thoughts). Sometimes Rock seems to breath a bit fast but seems fine otherwise.

I'm going to try to get a good video to show the vet. Maybe it s normal for China...I still haven't had her a year and this is my first summer with her. I wonder if I could post a video here of it?.....
I think asking the vet would be a good idea, but try not to worry too much. I’ve found mine have very different heat tolerances - Chloe and Cookie could care less that it’s 90 plus out, but Sass overheats if it’s 65, LOL. But she can go all winter and Cookie gets cold and needs a vest to swim.
Maybe Dakota is just more heat tolerant.
