Our New Routine - Rocky update

The ongoing changes in our routine continue. We're making the best out of everything though. Rocky hasn't been able to (or wanting to) do stairs for... three weeks now? wow time flies. I knew this was a likely scenario when I bought this house. I have my futon down there and my computer (for netflix). So I sleep there with him. He no longer asks to come up, he doesn't want to go up knowing it means coming down (which was the issue that came up initially). I guess it isn't that unsual that we ended up here from day to the other (not gradually).

Sadly it means a bit more time alone as he can't chill in the kitchen with me (kitchen is one floor up). BUT, I do some peeling and choping down there with him and getting tons more stairs done during the day as I go up to check on what's cooking and then go back down to chill with Rocky. SO big picture, he isn't spend a large amount more time alone. I prep meals on weekends so it's minimal time on week nights. I do need to try and get him moving more because ground floor is just one room (VS the second floor was two larger rooms so he'd get more natural steps following me to the kitchen and back)

The weather is finally cooler most days (though still a warm fall), which has lead to some good developments. We leave the patio door open for fresh and air Rocky can eat his kongs outside (his home cooked is taken in like 6-7 kongs). Yesterday he even asked to go chill outside (which is new).

Saturday we walked to the park and just sat down to listen to the kids play. Some of the kids on our street where there and came to say hi.

we can go around the block 2-3x though I am careful as the last time it cooled down I did too much, so i try to not do 3x each day until we work back up to it. we can do 15 minutes sniffy walk. Good for his morale.

Oct 14 we have a photoshoot (outside, hoping it goes well). It will be our last (official) one, and it is a shoot i've wanted to do for a few years now.

Our next goalpost is oct 27 - his 13.5 birthday. I am doing all I can to enjoy this time as I suspect we are on track with my expected timeline for his passing. He is getting weaker. I am contemplating some physical therapy but at the same time money is short and it doubt it will extend much. I am waiting for a quote and maybe will get an assessment.

I was just going to post a Kimber update and saw yours. It sounds like you are doing all that we can: making Rocky comfortable, giving him lots of attention, paying attention to his quality of love. Internet hugs to you and your boy.

Rocky sounds like he is still very much enjoying life even if it is at a slower pace. Bless that sweet boy and to you for giving him the very best care and love.

Hugs to you and precious Rocky! 13 year old Molly wouldn't be able to do stairs, either, but thankfully, here she doesn't have to. There are 2 steps up from the entryway into the kitchen & that's our main floor, so we are fortunate there. She kind of bunny hops with her hind legs on those 2 stairs, but she can go right up, as long as nothing gets in her way. It is so very hard to see our babies age, and I really admire all you are doing to help Rocky be comfortable & happy! I hope you will have a lot more time together!

Rocky is so lucky to have you. Things may be winding down for the old man but he's surrounded by love. Can't ask for anything more.
