Oh yea... well I now have *5* seniors in my household including Tango (7.5) who I just bred for the last time (she had her only litter in May of 2016!). Kiku is now 8.5, Envy will be 9 at the end of Nov, Sonya just turned 11 (and I co-own her littermate/brother who is Pippin's sire) and Mata is going to be 13 in Feb! Yikes..... That is a lot of Sr Bloodwork, let me tell you. TG all are very healthy here too so let's just keep up the good work! I sure hope your anaplasmosis test is neg... I am not even sure I know what it is or if we have it around here but just sayin!!!

BTW, the way it's turned out lately, I have my first "senior" panel done at spay time. I have been doing it annually thereafter but the main thing I want to look at initially is thyroid to make sure it doesn't dip. So far, mine have all stayed in the mid range.

It’s a tick-borne disease. The test came back positive in that she has been exposed (again, this happened 5 years ago too), but since it is SO common around here and most dogs clear it on their own they don’t usually treat it unless the dogs are symptomatic, which depending on which type they’ve got, can be either Lyme like symptoms (fever, joint pain, lethargy) or more subtle (periodic anemia - which is what they were checking Chloe for). Her platelet levels were fine so they think that she did get it but is throwing it off on her own so we’re not going to treat unless something changes.

Ah, the senior years. So glad Chloe's blood work came back great. That's one of the first things I get done when a new furkid joins the family. Gives a good baseline for the future.

Ahhh, that's why. My area is really pretty safe as far as tick borne illnesses go. So far anyhow..... I generally only have to do 2 fiproguard type applications per year since once it gets hot, the ticks go into hiding (that or maybe the rattlers come out and scare them away!).

Aww I remember when Chloe was your youngin' and Mulder and Scully were the "seniors"! Daisy is starting to show signs of being a senior at 7 years old. She was diagnosed with Cushing's last year, and is starting to show signs of cataracts in her eyes. You'd never guess from her energy levels though, still plays around like a young pup with no signs of that slowing down.
