      Difficult Weekend with Rock

It hasn't been a great week with his falls last weekend (my post in health section). but this weekend he has some quirkly worrisome behaviours. I'm just feeling down, but trying to focus on today (and the positives), implement things that could maybe help and hope for the best.

His right shoulder is definitely bothering him and seems to be getting worse. He is making noise sometimes when he breaths (but breathing fine).

Friday he was whining at the bottom of the stairs when he saw me bring his food up (to make kongs). VERY unlike himm, he doesn't whine.

Yesterday he was very drooly. He's been more licky-lick lately but actual litteral drooling is new.

Tday we have our first snow (thoug not the coldest day) and his back end went way down on the walk around the block (short block to potty). He had the balloon boots on. I am HOPING it is just the cold that got to his back feet and that boots will clear that up (an issue from last year just not at earlier temps). He was wearing his jacket too. I didn't go right to the boots due to issues iwth him slipping.

PLUS, I walked him while holding his harness and it hurt my back and he wasn't impressed either It was a miserable walk all around. I am scared he will fall again. I will try some other leash arrangement to see if I can keep him safe, and make it more enjoyable for both of us.

HE is still himself for the most part and getting up, attentive to me (well for food). Generally keen to go out and potty. So I haven't rushed to the ER :P

This is mostly me being whiny. I will try some changes and we see the vet Tuesday. I will seriously discuss trying nsaids-pain management beyond gabapentin and hollistic stuff.

some photos of him eating breakfast saturday

So sorry to see Rocky is struggling. I'll keep fingers and paws crossed for improvement.

This is tough, I know. Rocky looks alert and happy in the photos.

My neighbour was looking into those little wheels, harness type thing when her girl's back end went out. We used to sort of wheel her out like a wheelbarrow, she could move her front legs ok. Unfortunately Lacey had some very awful grand mal seizures and we never got to try the wheels.

Oh, rats...bad stuff about Rocky isn't what we want you to have to tell us. I hope the weather had a good bit to do with it...both of mine are "off" today with the extra high winds making noise and I've got a few joints that had me going to the Advil mid-morning. I presume they were both aching a bit, too (although you would think Sunnie's Rimadyl would have offset that)

Those pictures sure make it seem like you're more concerned about him than he is himself. I hope the drooling doesn't indicate pain or anxiety. My Hersh got really anxious when his legs started acting up but I don't remember him drooling. On the other hand, when Sunnie's anxiety is worse, she's a dripper.

Have you asked your vet about Galliprant? It is new, so is expensive, but Molly has been on it for quite awhile now & it really helps her. It isn't supposed to have the negative effects to the liver that Rimadyl can have. I wonder if you could loop a towel under the handle of his harness to make it easier for you to hold onto so you wouldn't have to bend over so much.....also you could loop one under his hind to help hold him up on that end & then you could get it right off when he needed to urinate......He looks like such a precious boy--it is so hard when they get old....

I'm sorry, Tanya. Not a great weekend here either- Kimber pooped in her sleep, and she's been falling on to her backside a lot even on short walks. Can we get time to slow down???

Thanks everyone. It was a "woe is me" sorta weekend. And yes Rocky remains...Rocky. he was up and keep for meals, for food. begging like always. Many things bother me a ton but don't bother him at all (well the drooling bit he didn't seem to be too comfortable with per say).

I was talking to a friend who reminded me of what my vet said at the end of our last visit. He said the weather changes in the coming weeks and months are often hard on dogs. He was recommending Vitamin B injections every two weeks or so to get thru the weather changes. I thought nothing much of it other than "Rocky is doing awesome and I can't pay $60+ every two weeks for vitamin B. BUT it gives me hop that maybe it does have to do with weather change and MAYBE this means it's just a low part and he'll bounce back - similarly for Kimber as well.

It seems no weather is good for them. Other than the nice two weeks of fall where it was 0-10 degrees (C). Saturday was freezing rain, no we have snow on top of that. Tomorrow it will go up significantly to hopefully melt all the ice.
