    Rocky (again)

This could almost be called Rocky's corner

So a week since our last visit and we were back in yesterday. Monday night I seriously considered going to the ER vet. His bed was pretty wet when I got home (he's had some on an off minor drooling and does more licking) and after our walk he was shivering for awhile. That stopped once I fed him so we hung in there til Tuesday morning.

We didn't see our regular vet (also holistic) but he was around (and in the end, he did see Rocky in the back and did a treatment - neural therapy). But a new set of eyes who has the full file and can also check with the regular vet is pretty good too. She thinks (and my vet agrees) that it seems to be the neurological issues moving to the front. The "shivering" seemed (ok she either said neurological or muscular). He was doing in at the appointment and it mostly around the shoulder area where she found a pressure point (sore) and his neck has been ... off for about a month now? The physio asked about that actually. They checked for sign of seizure or that sort of issue, but there are none visible. reflections good. Everything could be explained (yes even drooling) by neurological issues which could be good as it isn't really an "added" complication just progression of the same one (progression isn't good though but hopefully it stabilizes for a month or more). And isn't far off the bark with LP (which again, has to do with nerve pathways in the throat right). They couldn't see anything wrong with his month (some spots with bad tartar but no signs of infection per say but that's just visual inspection).

New vet about gave me a heart attack asking how long he's had a heart murmur (um...never! vet listened one week ago and it was good!) but she re-did it standing and he was ok.

We did some bloodwork (dang that's expensive!) so results are in today or tomorrow. We may add some more meds into the mix as needed, depending how he responds to the treatment. Bloodwork is hard as there are many options (and we probably should have re-done the larger thyroid panel) but it's all so $$.

I am hoping he can stabilize and be comfortable-happy thru the holidays.

Note: i'd rather just go with vet opinion and rather not hear some of the more scary possibilities :P I've refrained from googling or even posting openly on facebook as people tend ot come back with scary possibilities which send me spiraling.

Yeah, the internet can be used for good and for evil and when my pets or family members have scary or vague symptoms, I try to stay off any searches. I mean, your vet who can see Rocky in the flesh, has a better chance of pinpointing what's going on than Dr. Google.

Good luck, Rocky certainly has a strong advocate in you!

I googled and joined group for the knee issue (penny) and LP (rocky) and was always freaking out. Especially the LP group, I was living in fear he would choke to death. And googling vague symptoms is pretty useless other than to scare you as it can be anything from minor issues (even slight dementia) to some cancer or life altering issue.

To be honest, even a painful tooth that needs to be removed and is painful is gonna be a huge issue/dilemma. it would be super expensive, risky (though his organs have so far been good) and stressful. and his body IS giving up slowly (like physically). But to say goodbye sooner because of a tooth? seems beyond lame. Maybe something "more serious" would be easier in some ways. But we may not even be able to diagnose that for sure without going in really...or maybe x-ray I guess but again, that is not cheap (especially if I don't plan to get it removed).

Sending positive thoughts to you and Rocky! I've tried a bunch of different things with Chappy's rear end weakness (which they think is neuropathy). Dr. Buzby's toe grips, this sand that you glue on the feet, and socks. She's taking Gallaprantin and gabapentin. Hope Rocky feels better soon.
