Poor girl. Both of you, poor girls. It's so hard to go through this. At our house we have pretty well agreed I take the pet in to the Vet. I can be strong then and fall apart later. OH looks after me when I get home.

I've shed more than a few tears for dogs I have never met, but almost felt like I knew them from this forum. Losing Kimber is no different. I can still remember when I found and joined the forum over 5 years ago, when Sophie was a puppy. The picture of happy Miss Kimber as your signature pic brought an immediate smile to my face the first time I saw, and even now, knowing she's gone, still makes me smile though my sadness. I've always thought that picture truly epitomized the happy, carefree nature of these wonderful dogs.

I know from experience there are no words that can ease the pain and sense of loss you are feeling. Just know that Miss Kimber touched many hearts, and no one could have loved her or cared for her more than you did. Time will ease the pain, but the memories and love will never fade.

Never prepared to read posts like this, furfriends succumbing to disease and age. It tears my heart out knowing what you are going through. I want to thank you for having a true heart and true love that could look past the grief you would have to endure and give Kimber release from illness and pain. Holding you tight in my heart.

Sweet Kimber, you were deeply loved.

The losses on this like minded labby board are always impactful. Kimber's loss is making my heart hurt extra. Thank you for sharing this.

    The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this — the last battle — can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
    Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close — we two — these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Losses are always hard to read but Kimber's is particularly impactful. Your recounts of her puppyhood kept me sane during Bobby's. Run free, Kimber!
