    Sprocket is gone

I lost my 13-year old yellow lab (Sprocket) to Hemangiosarcoma Wednesday night. She collapsed suddenly on Tuesday and it turned out her chest was filling with blood. She was struggling to breath. At the emergency room, they were able to aspirate some of the blood and give her pain meds, but she was clearly uncomfortable. She came home for one night and we ended up putting her to sleep Wednesday night. My awesome regular vet said she probably only had days without treatment and we risked a major bleed out at any time. Treatment was not a good choice given her age and how advanced the illness was.

I am beyond sad. I feel like my heart has a big hole and I’ve lost my soul mate and security blanket. I used to frequent this board years ago and found my way back recently more as a reader. I am posting because I know you can all relate to the bond.

This is my first dog since having family dogs as a kid. I knew it was going to be hard when she passed, but this is worse than I thought. Ug.

    Thanks for listening.

I'm so sorry for your loss of sweet Sprocket. We lost our Chase just this summer to the same horrible disease and it was both shocking and devastating. Sprocket clearly did her job well of giving you all her love and trust. You gave her the same every day and especially this week when she needed it the most. My heart goes out to you. Rest in peace, lovely Sprocket.

First, I can't tell you how sorry I am to hear of the loss over your beloved Sprocket. I've been where you are too many times over the past 30 some years. It doesn't get any easier. Each loss leaves a giant hole in your heart, and not a day goes by that I don't think of all those wonderful dogs who have gone forward. The pain of Sprocket's loss will fade, but the memories will live forever in your heart.

    Run free sweet girl.
