I'm so sorry. I remember Sprocket...I wish the memory wasn't triggered by something so horrible.

Rest in Peace, sweet girl....run free....

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words. I really appreciate it.

I had never heard of HSA before. And like everything I have read, it comes from out of the blue. Sprocket had been slowing down for awhile due to her age, but I had just taken her to her weekly water therapy appointment on Monday and she was having a great time running around the therapy room with her tail wagging up a storm and a big smile on her face. Then, BAM. The next day she got up from lying next to me, walked a few steps, stopped, wobbled, and then collapsed.

I had just finished making her a fresh, three-week supply of her homemade food that's now sitting in my freezer downstairs. Her supplements are all still sitting on the counter. And her dog beds and toys are still all around the house. I can't get the motivation to start removing all of her stuff.

The hardest times are when I go to do things that we used to do every day, like feeding her breakfast, or getting my coffee and going to a certain spot in the house to read the paper with her lying in her dog bed near me, or her waiting at the bottom of the stairs every night to go to bed as soon as she recognized the signs of me closing up the house for the night (she never went up without me.) I am definitely not ready for another one yet, but it is hard to fill the Sprocket voids.

I am so sorry. It's hard to lose them, but it's even a bigger shock when the loss is sudden, no matter how long and happy their lives were.

Run free, sweet girl. Hugs to you and your family.
