I am so sorry. 13.5 years is a great long life regardless what happens ( I truly feel this way about Rocky - as HARD as I know loosing him will be, big picture I feel blessed he has given me so many wonderful years).

Concentrate on keeping her calm and happy. I get wanting to know but if the car trip will be stressful and there is no treatment difference...i'd not make her do the drive. If the car trip is a fun thing she would enjoy that's another story.

Thank you......yes, I feel that we are going day by day now. I pray for your Rocky, too. He has such a wise, sweet, & precious face! It's so hard when they get old! A month ago, I felt like Molly was doing fine. Of course, slowed down & on Galliprant & Cosequin for arthritis, etc, but she still loved to play, and we always were able to take a walk down to the end of our road. Things changed quite suddenly about 3 weeks ago. Vet feels like it is her liver going. Her ALT has been somewhat elevated for the past few years, but I didn't think it was high enough to be dangerous, compared with some of the levels I've seen on the internet which were in the thousands. I think Molly's first elevated ALT was 146, then a year later was about 276, then last year it was down from 276, but not all the way back to normal. This last recheck it was 307 or so, which I still wouldn't have thought that was all that high, but I don't know anything about it. She has been on Denamarin for a couple of years now. She can't even walk to the top of our driveway right now--all we do is go out for very short potty walks with her lifting harness on. She doesn't play. She wanted nothing to do with the liver food samples the vet gave us, but she perked up & showed interest when I opened a can of Heidi's urinary care food, so that's what Molly has been eating lately, & so far she seems very glad to get it. She also likes the vitamin the vet sold us. She has times when she seems to be doing o.k--she greeted me at the door with her tail wagging when I got home from work. And she used to love riding in the car or motorhome, but she wouldn't be comfortable now. She can't get in or out on her own, & a 2 or 3 hour trip each way would just be too much. She has not collapsed for a few days, so that is good thing, but she is still very weak, sometimes she breathes kind of funny, and has to do that dry heaving noise every now & then. Of course the anemia freaks me out. Vet said to try to feed her the food for liver problems, but she wouldn't eat it. She does like the vitamins. Maybe if she gets a little stronger I can find a liver food she will eat. Right now I'm pretty much just glad that she seems to be eating a decent amount of food. I quit the Galliprant & Cosequin DS, as arthritis is probably the least of our worries now. She still likes to be petted & loved on so we do plenty of that. I don't see how I will possibly be able to do what has to be done when the time comes, and yet I'll have to do it.

I hope Rocky will be o.k. for a good while yet......

If you can check the ingredients of the food the vet gave you, and see among the additives what substances are supposed to support the liver, maybe you can buy those separately and just add them to her regular food.

I've got Dan on Denamarin but if you want to add sam-E and silybin to her food, these are what I'm giving Sunnie:

Sunnie's stuff is preventative since she's on Rimadyl. Dan is actually working on getting his ALT down so I definitely want him taking something away from food.

Thank you so much everybody, for your kind thoughts and prayers, and helpful tips........I'm sorry to say we lost Molly on Tuesday afternoon. So I'm heartbroken.......I know we did what we had to do--really, we had no choice at that point. I managed to get through that because we had to do it, but now the "missing her" phase is kicking in. She was very special and precious to me, as all of our dogs are to each one of us. I wanted to put on some nice pictures of her in the Rainbow Bridge Section, where I tried to write a tribute for her, but at the moment I can't figure out how to post a picture at all. After Photo Bucket became unuseable, I switched to Shutterfly, which worked for a short time, but now that won't work either. If I ever get it figure out, I'll try again to put on some pictures of her.....

Thank you again, and hug your furkids! They don't get to stay here long enough......

So sorry to hear about Molly. You definitely did what you could for her. Getting through the process because "you have to" is what I did as well and it's not easy at all.
