How's her hearing?
You really don't want to shake a sleeping dog. Put your hand under her nose so that she can detect your presence and awaken calmly.
So it seems like China has been sleeping so incredibly deeply lately. Like I can come in the house shutting doors and calling her name and she doesn't wake up. It's scary. I literally had to shake her several times last night to wake her- she's 11. Dakota slept this deeply or nearly towards the end but she had cancer. Montana was close but not as bad and again- he had cancer too. this is bothering me. Anyone else experience this?

I did try to put my hand under her nose but she was sleeping too deeply. I then petted her head- still didn't wake up. I came in from grocery shopping and panicked when she didnt come to greet me. I honestly don't know about her hearing. I suppose maybe its not as sharp as it once was but I can't tell for sure...?
Scully was like that the last year or so, but her hearing was definitely going. My guess is that's most likely the issue with China.

Older dogs do have a deeper sleep than younger dogs, I've noticed that with Cookie. If you are worried though, maybe talk with your vet and take her in for a check-up.

Mata has been sleeping deeply the past yr or so too, but she's almost 14. Not sure on her hearing since she sure seems to know when I'm up in the kitchen making myself something to eat!

My Ginger (13 yrs) has lost most of her hearing so she doesn't hear us when we come into the house anymore. Sarah (12yrs) is usually up and greeting us but there have been times his past year when we come home and find Sarah sleeping too. And yes our Sarah is also sleeping harder and sounder as she has gotten older. I have had to check her a couple times to make sure she was still breathing kinda of sleeping.
We used to laugh at Tootsie we would worry about her hearing until you peel a banana in another room and she came running
You can always as suggested have a vet check her out if that will help

They do sleep more deeply when older, I notice it too with Oban. Oban is still passing the cornflake test with flying colours so nothing wrong with his hearing. But I would suspect hearing and have tested. I agree, don't shake a sleeping dog, even your own dog. We don't have that old saying for nothing, it can actually apply to dogs. Try stomping on the floor to set up a vibration in the floor.
