Sending mojo
Nikki is turning 15 in a couple of weeks. Half the time I think she is fantastic! The other half we're trying to figure out her gut issues. The last ultrasound was fine. The last bloodwork was fine. She's on her supplements. Diet is so bland. Turkey, chicken, squash, yams, some fruit, all in a blender. She eats everything but then, sometimes, an hour to a few hours later, she crashes. Sometimes omeprazole works. Sometimes Cerenia works. Sometimes nothing works. We're still going at it but sometimes I just feel helpless. She's so active most of the time and so happy most of the time. I honestly don't know when is when.
Ack! Anyway. Just needed to core dump. Thanks.

All good thoughts from me. Given her health history, do the vets give any indication of what factors could possibly be causing cyclical crashes like that...maybe a little too much activity from time to time stressing out her system? (my adrenals do that from time to time) Perhaps a bit more pain affecting her quality of sleep periodically? I wonder if environmental differences in the food production (more likely season to season, but still...) could contribute....antibiotics in the birds' feed, chemicals used with the produce...that kind of thing? Grasping at straws here....

Not sure what you mean by this? Vomitting, diarrhoea? Lethargy? Would more but smaller meals help? When Oban was so sick I was feeding him 5 times a day. Good thoughts for you and Nikki. She eats everything but then, sometimes, an hour to a few hours later, she crashes.

Nausea mostly, sometimes gas. Just general distress, pacing, drooling, curled lips, lowered back end the last three being the most extreme. It's almost like food gets to a certain point in her digestive system and has a problem getting through. Our first thought was the cancer came back but she had a quickie ultrasound just a month ago.
We threw a Hail Mary without any OK from a vet and started giving her Neem with meals which is what we take ourselves for GI issues, usually after we go to a restaurant. This is the first day she hasn't had any reaction for a while. She's already on probiotics and all kinds of other combos liked Ds Digest to ease distress but they just weren't working. Hopefully, the Neem makes an impact and this isn't a coincidence.
Probably not a problem getting through but rather a sensitivity making itself known at a point where absorption is making the difference. I have major sensitivities/intolerances and I have become waaayyyy too familiar with "getting hit" when things get to that certain point. Side effects intensify. And they don't resolve till stuff passes further along...preferably, out.
TMI...sorry....but think this might help. I would be re-thinking the food, perhaps doing a bit of elimination. No pun intended.
