    Hudler's not feeling well...

Hudler turned 13 at the end of May. He's got mild LP and also seems to have the neuro problems in his rear that often goes with it. He was getting chiro treatment as well as cold laser recently, but that didn't seem to help much. He started having problems eating, so we brought him to the vet. Nothing wrong with mouth or teeth. They did notice some cloudiness in his lungs after a couple of xrays. He's on antibiotics and last night started hacking up mucus. He's not eating though. I've tried just about everything...at least the usual stuff like ground meat, yogurt, soft treats, special canned food, scrambled eggs. Some things interest him for a meal or two, some not at all.

I am going away for the weekend to a dog show. My husband will have to care for him (Hudler is technically HIS dog). He's not ready to let his dog go yet, and I am hoping the meds kick in and the appetite returns. He's not looking at bright and alert as he has....

Keep Hudler in your thoughts...he can deal with the bad legs a bit longer as long as he eats and gets over the lung issue.

Fingers crossed for Hudler. Hoping appetite perks up and meds kick in. Sending good thought to your husband as this is going to be a tough time for him as well.

Have a safe trip to the show.

I hope Hudler perks up and feels better soon. Kind of nice that your husband and Hudler will be together this weekend to spend some time together. Not that your husband doesn't see what's going on, but without you there to buffer things, maybe he'll see things a little differently. Of course, we'd much rather he feel better and get back to his usual self.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

I decided to drop one of the two antibiotics he was getting. I left him on the ciprofloxacin which he took when he had his last kidney infection. He ate the whole time while he was on it. They are also easier to get down his throat than the 2 huge amoxy's he also had to take. Got him to take his pain pills with peanut butter plus about another 2T of peanut butter, and then I made him eat 1/2 a can of tripe (not a pretty thing to watch). Now he's sleeping.

I had to spend the last weekend with Maddy alone (she was my dog) and it was probably good that I got that time. I dont' think Hudler's at that point yet, but I think it will be good for Dave to care for him.
