Well, Cookie is fine today. We went for a short swim at the lake this morning.

WAlking in water is much harder than walking on dry land. It's like resistance training, the water provides the resistance. Easy to overdo it.

Just be careful with a harness, maybe see the Vet first. If I had bought one of the popular ones for Jet it would have made her back worse, because of where X-rays showed her vertebrae and disk damage was, just about in the middle of her back. The Vet showed me how to lift her, never used a ramp or harness. She only weighed 56 lbs. though.

40 C? OMG, that would do me in. That's ~103 F. What's the air quality like when it's that hot? Could be a big factor. Cookie is cooking in the heat?

Beautiful sweet Cookie. The help em up harness is very good. I used for Samson during his TTA and even as heavy (95 lbs) as he is, it was very easy to lift his back end (of course the back end is lighter but I think you know what I mean). Glad to hear Cookie is feeling better already. Sweet boy.

    Thank you everyone

Snowshoe, it's hot and humid and it's tough on me, I can just imagine how Cookie may be feeling with all the fur. The fountain is our life savior. Otherwise I don't think we'd be able to do much. The worst part is that we went from 18C at the beginning of June (after a cold and rainy May) to 33+C during last week all of a sudden and we didn't even have time to acclimate.

Been there and dealt with that a couple times in the last few years with both Tanner and Yukon. It's definitely hard to watch the decline. I've used harnesses (help- em- up), physically carried them and in some cases had to avoid long stairways altogether and figured out diff living/sleeping arrangements.

You've done very well with Cookie since the accident and I hope you have a lot more time with him. Your photos of him over the years have been wonderful. This forum is such a great place, where others can empathize with what others are going through.

The only other thing I would add from experience is to keep Cookie as pain free as possible with meds in addition to NSAIDS, such as Tramadol, CBD Oil, Gabapentin, Amantadine, Methocarbamol, Steroids (used separately from NSAIDS), Adequan injections, and holistic meds as well...

I've read where CBD oil can interfere with other medications...including NSAIDs.

    Thank you all!

Outrag, thanks. Cookie is on a couple of supplements that seem to be working for now. I add glucosamine & chondroitine, turmeric (golden paste), vitamin C, vitamin E, salmon oil, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar and spirulina to his meals. I have been successfully avoiding long-term NSAID use and will continue to do so for as long as possible. Steroids are the last option, when NSAIDs stop working, so I am not even considering those. CBD oil and Adequan are not available where I live (CBD oil being illegal here). Holistic medicine is not completely developed either.

Cookie continues to do well. Went to the lake again this morning, to beat the heat:
