    Food Fussy at 15

Maxxie just turned 15 & he is starting to be a bit fussy with food. Normally he eats a beef stew that I make. He has had that for years. Now he sniffs it & turns away. I tried some kibble this morning which he ate a bit of. He is apple crazy & wouldn't eat one today. Mornings seem to be the time he is most fussy. He will eat most treats. Last night I hand fed him beef, plain but cooked, a carrot & some treats. this morning only a carrot, and some cheesy hearts.
any helpful hints are welcome. He has no real health issues except arthritis. Thanks

No brilliant ideas to offer, but wanted to keep Maxxie in our thoughts for sure. It seems like we just might need to keep experimenting with different things and find out what works. Not sure if a call to your vet would yield any help or not . . .

Any update on how Maxxie is doing? Also I have heard that if you slightly warm the food it sometimes helps.

He is being quite funny. He seems to really like chicken breast, that have a lot of raw carrots put on top. Some days he will eat meat, which he used to eat every day, a stew. This morning I gave him just cubes of cooked beef. turned his nose up to it. So I put some zucchini on it, and he started to eat it. Not all, but he ate it. I think he is becoming a vegan like everyone else in Vancouver. LOL. It seems if I just smother the food with carrots he gets enticed to eat it. Silly old fart.

When is the last time he had full blood work? Kidneys or liver issues can cause them to go off food. My 14 1/2 year old had kidney failure found thru blood work. No symptoms at all but did go off her food.

Really, really super advice. Had not even thought of that. Usually a smart choice to get it checked out with your vet. Thanks Patty!

I'm going to call right now. He did have blood work done about 6 weeks ago, when I first I took him in.

I would hope if liver or kidney levels were elevated on that last blood draw the vet would have told you. Let us know what you find out.
