Which one is causing my dog diarrhoea?

Cooper had his check up on Saturday and the vet recommended adding Glucosamine and Omega-3. He wrote out a range to give him and today he had some bad diarrhoea. Would either cause it one more than the other? I did some googling and it says that the Glucosamine may be the cause and we should back down in his dosage.

    Thoughts?
    Thanks Everyone!!

I think I've seen some people on here say they've had trouble with glucosamine also. I don't want to name names because I'm just not certain I remember correctly. Mine get 900 mg of glucosamine daily but the started out on twice that for the first 4-6 weeks and seemed to tolerate it OK. Javadoo, or whatever her current name is, gives much higher doses, I think. When mine were on the "loading doses" I gave half in the morning and half at dinner time, in case that made a difference. Does Cooper have any symptoms or is this to try to head off problems?

It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. I did not do the loading dose on the glucosamine when starting because of the fact that it might cause diarrhea. Mardi has been taking it now for several years and is tolerating is well.

Are you giving the Omega-3 in oil form? I would think that could be a cause. Might have to ease into that one.

He's 13 and is a little slower getting around and can't really get on the bed any more. He is also sleep pooping and having accidents. The vet did some test and suggested the two pills.

The Omega is in a gel capsule. I tried a couple and it gave me heartburn pretty bad.

We were to give him the double for 4 weeks as well of the gluco. We are going to try backing him off. It was currently 5 capsules daily from the math we did. I don't have them in front of me. We are going to try 3 and see if that is better.

If he's sleep pooping we definitely do not need what we saw today happening in the house.
    Thanks Everyone!!

You may want to add pure canned pumpkin to his food to help firm things up.

Poor Cooper. I agree with Poptop - the Omega 3 could be the cause. We gave Duchess Recovery (- Recovery SA) and it really helped her. I put the powder in her dinner.

    Hope he feels better soon!

We give Glyco Flex III chews to both Calley and Midnight. One chew each at breakfast and supper. Calley is has a pretty sensitive digestion at times and she tolerates it fine. It seems to help their joints and has no Omega in it at all. Click on the link for ingredients, we have found a good price on it at Amazon.

I am thinking its the fish oil. but backing off both supps and going slow would be a good idea. Hoping it does the trick.
