I am sorry. We usually tried to do it before a weekend so we did not have to worry about something happening when the vet was closed.

Thanks guys. Just when I thought I couldn't cry anymore tears...for a bit...more came. It's devastating. 10 1/2 years is a long time to love someone who loves you back without fail. Without missing a beat. Ever. The vet was fantastic, sweet & he realized I was in a pickle-as this came about at a time when I had my dd with me & my husband wasn't home yet. He was careful with his words in front of her. My husband came home from work to find only Dakota home alone so he knew something was wrong & headed straight to eh vets office & just as the vet was giving me the last 2 options ( the shot & a few days of meds or put him to sleep) my husband walked in. Sweet Sweet Montana brings a big tough guy to tears.
This morning the swelling has gone down, in fact there is marked improvement. He still has a bit of a tiny twitch going on, but if the swelling goes down more that will too. We can touch his beautiful face without hurting him. He didnt wanna play much but hung close to me while I was home, smiling & wagging. So hes getting strong antibiotics & I think steroids for the inflammation? he said it brings down the inflammation which eases the pain. So he got a pill of that this morning too, tiny little thing in some peanut butter. He got the 1st few licks & then some fell & Dakota got that. I'm PRAYING he got that pill. His next comes when I get home about 4:15.
I know its my responsibility to let him go. I couldn't do it without trying to get him pain free once more since all else is still there-his will to walk & play ( except for this morning) his wanting to eat & give kisses....I now understand what everyone means when they say "you will know when it is time".
I sat with him talking to him & telling him simply that soon he will be running free & that I expect to see his face 1st when i get there.
    F-ing sucks. F-ing hurts.
