I don't blame you at all for being nervous especially if weaning off the med is showing a decline already. I guess I just don't understand why the change is necessary. Considering the prognosis you have been given the benefit far out weighs any risk, at this point. I would not be happy if my vet did this and put some quality time in jeopardy.

I guess he feels the Rimadyl can be a longer safer option maybe. I'm giving it only until morning & if I continue to see a bit of decline I'm going to call him. I feel like a weight on my shoulders about this -because of the amount of time I may have left with him I don't wanna make the wrong decision-you know what I mean?
But I have to say-even with a bit of decline ( and I do mean a tiny bit) this dog is way better by leaps & bounds than last week. Sweet funny boy almost jumped the counter at the vet last night fro a treat her thought someone was holding lol talk about spoiled..I was like please don't let ppl see that you are still a surfer at this age!!

I am so sorry for all you are dealing with but glad to hear the meds are helping him. Praying the Rimadyl would do just as good a job.

I completely misunderstood the degree of decline you were seeing. Please don't second guess the decisions you are making. It sounds like you are very in tune with your sweet boy and on top of the most subtle changes. Enjoy the quality time you are now having, I pray it continues for both of you.

I love that he was counter surfing at the vets! At this point anything that makes him happy will make you happy, don't worry what others may think. Continued prayers for good days ahead.

It's good that over all Montana is feeling perky and has a good appetite. I too constantly second guess the meds with True. It's so hard when they have more than one thing going on. It really sounds like you like you have a good eye on just how he is feeling and know when to make adjustments. Sending loads of good thoughts and prayers for you both.

    Sooooo here's the rundown:
Saturday was FANTASTIC!! my husbands friend came by with a new baseball for Montana ( and some love for Dakota so she wouldn't feel left out ) They went out to the races & so they were gone by the time I got back from my dd's game-Montana came running around the corner with this in his mouth & promptly threw it at me when I got inside the door!! Talk about the joy of dogs...
then Sunday he was fantastic too, playing on his own, bringing me toys....we went for a walk and it was a bit warmer than lately so they were both panting quite a bit when we got home. After a while Dakota settled down & took a nap, while Montana layed in the hall panting still. Still though he seemed good. There is still that snoring when he lays down & I cant remember if that was helped at all by the Rimadyl when he was on that a few weeks ago. Anyway this morning I got up & quickly checked him out-still the tumor doesn't look bigger much if at all. Certainly not that ballooning that happened that Thursday that started this all. I gave him a pumpkin muffin & his new Rimadyl, this does is higher than what the vet had given him a few weeks ago for the arthritis. About an hour later it was time for breakfast & he got his antibiotics. So far nothing to report. Too early to tell if this is gonna be our long term potion or what.
Here I sit at work, sad because I have no personal time to take a day to monitor him ( I am fiercely looking for a new job) And top it off: Friday I overhear my boss talking about his friends dog who is aging & ill, he says to his friend " dig that damn grave, pet him, pop him & roll him in...HAHAHA!" I nearly fell out of my chair. This man knows my love of dogs & wouldn't say that to me, wouldn't say that to his wife-they have a chocolate Lab who is aging & his wife adores this dog, he is jealous of the dog too, but he didn't try to say this quietly to his friend. Sickens me. Sickens me to have to sit here working for this kind of person.
Anyway, I have no idea how long it takes for Rimadyl to fully kick in so I don't know how long until I see its full effect-to know what its gonna do. To calm my inner worry I say well Rimadyl fights inflammation & pain, so this should make Montana feel pretty good BUT if its isn't gonna do the trick I'm afraid because to rush him back in for another shot of the dexamathasone--they wouldn't be able to do it I don't think because the 2 cant be given together. SO if he's got Rimadyl in his system, then I cant bank on that shot if needed. I'm over thinking/over worrying huh?
I guess maybe call the vet to see how long to give this Rimadyl before deciding if this is doing him as good as the steroids. Right?
But boy what a weekend it was, precious time
