    Thank you all.

It is nice to get words of empathy from folks.

It is even better to get them from folks on the Lab Board.

But it is especially meaningful to read them from you all in the Senior section because you "get it" without having to say a word.

All we can say is thanks and backatcha.

This is a real sad update, I'm really sorry to see you in this bind, and I'd like to thank you for finding the bravery to share your difficult and painful experience with others because it might help someone else to avoid it. Don't have a senior anymore, but been there, done that, so I know how unsettling it is when you're traveling down a road, having to make decisions for your furry friend, worried it might be a cul-de-sac. Sending a lot of good thoughts for Midnight and for you, so you could find the wisdom and courage to make the right decision at the right time and, of course, a lot of luck which is very often the most important thing Will be thinking of you, keeping our fingers and paws crossed for the best possible results. Hi! Odin is 11 years old and in January had surgery for Mast Cell Cancer and had a lump removed from the corner of his eye. He is on daily Benadryl to help stave off further tumors, and glucosamine chondroitin and a buffered aspirin. He leaks a bit of urine when he is really relaxed, but I don't care. We just take him out about every hour to ensure he never has a full bladder to avoid any indoor accidents. He has really started slowing down since his surgery and recently has started to have tremendous difficulty going up and down stairs. We needed to have a check up with the vet anyway as it has been 6 months since the surgery and I feel it is worth it to make sure he is doing okay.

So sorry to hear about Midnight's recent troubles... to all of you. I'm sure he knows how much he's loved.

We've still got our two seniors: Hailey is now almost 9.5, but you wouldn't know it to look at her. Still has a vertical leap that can take a biscuit out of your mouth, despite losing her rudder (tail) to mast cell cancer a year and a half ago. She's not on any meds yet, save for one glucosamine tablet a day and whatever Maddie might happen to spit out.

And that could be any number of things.... Maddie is 14.5 and is really beginning to show her age (although just a couple days ago, we let her out of the kennel after getting home and she again tried to jump OVER a stone wall to get to me. Ended up with a bruised ego more than anything), but will still run around if it's not too hot and she's feeling perky.

She is currently under the care of a wonderful holistic / acupuncture vet where she goes once a month for treatments. I then treat her at home with accupressure between appointments. She's on any number of Chinese herbs. Once a week, I put on the dust mask and make her pills. Three size 12s (this is where the term 'horse pills' came from!) a day with herbs for appetite, hindquarter weakness, shen support (anti-anxiety) and liver support. She also get s glucosamine a day, along with calcium supplements and a senior vitamin. She's not been eating well for several years, but we manage. She's totally off the home-cooked now and she continually turns her nose up at it. She seems to go for kibble (currently Earthborn salmon), but in a couple weeks will stop eating that and we have to go to a different flavor.

DH says it's a lot of work... LOL! I make the food and the pills and mostly take her to appointments. If he only knew He usually complains when she poops or pees in the house, which isn't too often, 'cause I get up in the middle of the night and let her out whenever I hear her shake herself off.

I wouldn't trade it for anything. We walked with Ben through his senior years and now we're right along side Maddie. She is so precious....

It's wonderful hearing all the updates on our seniors. I wish I could give everyone of them a big hug... you all will just have to do that for me!
