    Think it's time. :(

My Lab, Smokes has leukemia. It was diagnosed this summer. Overall, he is holding his own with prednisone and tramadol , but his breathing always seems so labored. I have been reading different articles about how to decide when is the right time. Smokes is able to walk, but has very poor endurance. He follows me around the house and I try to have him not follow me up and down the stairs, especially when I am just running right back down the stairs. He is eating great, but only what he wants. I am concerned he may have dementia as he is doing things he has not done for years, like getting in trash, having accidents in house. It's easy to clean things up, but it is concerning to me. He also has diarrhea at times, sometimes I see blood in his stool.

To make it worse, we have a senior Golden, and senior cat. They both are not well either. Molly, our Golden, I feel is in a lot of pain because of arthritis, doesn't get around well. The cat, Jr. just isn't right, doesn't eat much, sits in one place all the time...I feel like all my animals are going at once.

I just don't know how to make the decision, then most likely will be making it sooner than later on other pets.

Thanks for listening. Has anyone else gone through all their pets on the decline at the same time?

So very sorry. It's so hard. While we home seniors, have only had one at end of life at a time.

Have a heart to heart with your vet about Smokes and his symptoms. It is all about quality of life now.

Hugs to you and your seniors.

We have been in contact quite q bit with our Vet. She has been great! I was hoping the tramadol would make breathing a little less labored, but it doesn't seem to help for that.

I am sorry for your loss. That is what I am thinking too, to have them further apart in future. We also have a 2 year old Lab mix.

I know its never easy...... put a gate at the bottom of the stairs for your quick trips up and back so he will not follow you and it will be less stress on him.

Prayers for you and all your seniors.....

Prayers for you and your pets. We had 2 senior cats and lost one this summer. Jax is 1 so we have some time. I know how hard it is to loose 1 pet so I can't imagine your position. I hope youll find comfort and support here.

This is a horrible decision to make. I have made this decision a few years ago when my cat had stomach cancer, was not eating and was soiling herself. The vet gave her a few weeks with chemo. I was not going to do that to her for a few weeks and it was one of the most painful things I have ever gone through. I never want to go through it with my Moby but one day it will happen. Moby loves to eat and take his walks smelling everything. When those things end then maybe that will be the time. I am so sorry. So awful. You will make the right decision.
