    Ellie. The love of my life

    I am not even sure why I am posting tonight. I took Ellie to the vet because I knew something was off. She has cancer and it's bad. Ellie is between 13 and 14. I have had her since she was about 1.5. There is no consoling me and things will never be ok again. I am taking her to get an ultrasound on her heart tomorrow. It will be the last test I do as it will tell me how long she has. I am sitting here tonight trying to figure out how I can get out of work for two months. How to I go to work when my heart is at home fading? Anyway, I just wanted the universe to know that Ellie the lab is the love of my life.

    So sorry you have received devastating news about your beautiful girl, it is just heartwrenching when you get the dreaded "C" diagnosis {hugs}. It is just gut wrenching and no words will bring comfort, but just know myself and others on this Board know exactly how you feel, as we have been down that very difficult road.

    I remember vividly the day I received a Cancer diagnosis (Hemangiosarcoma) for the love of my life, Fitzy, my black lab boy, a few months shy of his 10th birthday. I lost him in Sept 2009 close to 5months after the diagnosis, despite having a Splenectomy (spleen with tumour removed) and chemo and I have missed my special once in a lifetime boy everyday since and will do so for the rest of my life.

    Goodluck with the ultrasound tomorrow as it should provide a clearer picture of where things are at for your girl. My heart goes out to you as you and your girl go on this difficult journey. Just love her hard and spoil her rotten for whatever time she has left as it is never enough time and you can never be prepared no matter what. Keeping you both in my thoughts {hugs}

    I am so sorry to hear about your Ellie. Good Luck with the ultrasound. Like Blacklabs said, spoil her, love on her like you have for so long. It's so tough when the love of your life is ill. My thoughts are with you and Ellie.

    “Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

    I am so sorry. Went through lymphoma with my one gal. She was 7. I only had my baby girl 3 short years. I had another with it at 10.5 years. He was our first one. Hugs.
